I noticed on the two AC C's I have, one Ross and one Gemmer steering, that the torque tubes are different to accommodate the different steering box type.  Specifically, the Ross tractor torque tube does not have holes for the brace that's found on the outside of the Gemmer outfitted tractor.   Make sense?  Am I nuts or is this correct?

If it does not have the holes for the brace it has been switched to one from a B. The B's have a shorter shaft and does not need or use the brace/bracket.

Dick, Thank you.  I was afraid of this.  I think this little project has turned into a nightmare.  This little tractor had a little bit of everything on it.  I thought I had something interesting with the low serial number and matching engine.  Should have listened to the more experienced people and simply used it as a parts tractor and found a more suitable restoration project.  Will the B torque tube cause any problems as far as fitment with the C engine and C tranny or clutch?

No problem and you can fasten the bracket on the steering box for position and drill and tap for the bolts. 1/2 - 13 threads as I remember

I just converted from a Gemmer to the newer style Ross on a 1947 C. The steering box was from a CA, had to trim the torque tube casting a 1/4" (the C has a thicker bolt flange) to allow for the bigger steering box from the CA. I used the steering tube from the model C, had to be trimmed about 1/2". I used the steering arm from the CA as the model C will never fit on a C steering box. The bushing for the steering shaft, I used a standard bronze busing, and riveted into place. I did use the original model C steering support, had to widen the holes that the U bolts uses. I am sure I have made this clear as mud, but send your number I can help you.

If you are seriously wanting the correct "everything" on that tractor, I think that one of the other ones you purchased probably has the correct torque tube. If not, I may have one here, as I have a couple left even after you purchased most of my C's. Surely between the two of us, we have the correct one.

Everyone.  Thank you for the advice and offers for help.  The original box fits just fine--must be B also.  I will just put everything back and call it good.  It all works fine and looks good.  Maggie is destined to be a hybrid.  No worries.

My 48 and 50 B does not have steering bracket holes or cultivator bracket holes. All 3 of my 52's do have these holes. I could be wrong but I think after they started making the CA in 51 they used the same torque tube on the CA and the B.
