I've got extra travel on my shift lever and goes way beyond my gear pattern and I have trouble finding reverse. Anybody have a idea on what the problem is? I just acquired this old girl and got it running after many years of sitting..

Yes. Its the shift pin that goes from the shift tower into the lever. I replaced ours. I have pictures but might not get them on here until tomorrow.

Here is the picture, you have to build up the lever slot, like Norm is saying, and add an oversize pin. You can get the pins from the tractor site parts sponsors (Upper right hand corner "parts")

Was there ever such a thing as a WC without slop in the gear shift?

our old WC had an after-market attachment that had a guide fastened to the tower and a small pointed thing that attached to the lever and engaged in the guide, thus preventing the lever from swinging all over.
not sure where Dad got it, but it did the job....mighta been something the dealer sold. Edited by Gatz in NE - 30 Sep 2012 at 8:48pm |

Just a word of caution be careful welding the groove. I did mine and it worked very nice for about 3 shifts then the shifter snapped off right above the ball. I had a friend look at it and he said I got it to hot while welding.
