How to remove manifold bolts on WD45? |

Should I attempt to remove these and risk breaking the manifold bolts off in the head or just let the machine shop do it when the head is rebuilt? Two came out but the others are not playing nice.

Charlie do I heat just the bolt or the head also as in direct the heat at the base of the bolt?

heat the head around the bolts and get a pipe wrench or large vise grip with good teeth clamped on the bolt as close to the head as possible and see if you can inch it out, if it breaks off shouldn't be the end of the world to drill and tap I think you can see the back of the hole thru the water jacket

Thanks Bill. Worst case is I break them off and the machine shop will get them out for me. I'll stop if I break the first one as I'm sure there is an increased cost to having them drilled out thats well above them getting them out for me. May give it a try tomorrow night if I have any propane for the torch.

What about the heat and parafin (candle) wax thing. Apparently it wicks down the threads at an amazing rate! I`ve yet to try it but I sure will the next time I face the challenge.

The original studs are good quality steel, and the head is good quality iron... when gripped close to the head, they've always come out nice for me... I've never had one break off.

Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.

Thanks you guys it did just as you said. Heat plus a pipe wrench and they all came out. Last one was the worst and I was getting that feeling I always get right before something snaps but it came out also. One less thing to worry about.
