I noticed I had a small hydraulic fluid leak which seemed to be running down the right side of my WD45 frame rail. The circular seal for my belt pulley attachment site was loose such that I could pull it out with my fingers, which really caused hydraulic fluid to flow! My question is, is this seal just a compression seal without a gasket? I can't seem to find a parts number for the gasket. Should I merely pound it in with a rubber mallet to seal it? Thanks!

There's a cork seal in it, they are or were avialable from Agco.

In the WD Operating Instructions manual the Parts Illustrations section shows a seal / gasket between the Engine Clutch Housing and the R/H side rail. Prior to ser. 10595 there was a flat plate with a gasket and 3 bolts to cover the hole. After that ser. no. - a 'pressed in' cover plate was used. It would appear that the nose of this cover plate would pass through the side rail and inner seal to seal the opening. HTH Gary

First show us a picture. If the cork seal is bad, it can be broken in 2 pieces and not be able to fall out. It is between the frame rail and the housing.
There is also a seal on the outboard end of the belt pulley shaft, but it is behind the pulley and I don't believe accessible with the pulley on the shaft. It sounds to me like you have no belt pulley, but a plug in it's place. If you have the plug and no belt pulley or shaft, I think the 3 bolts that hold the pulley in are used to hold the plug in place.
According to how I read the agco parts book, the seal is 70208417

You apparently have the "cupped" cover which was used beginning with tractor serial #10595.
There is a seal that goes into the housing before the "cupped" cover is pressed in place.
The number of that seal is 202289.
As Gary says, a bolt on cover was used prior to this.
Incidently, on tractors equipped with a belt pulley, the only thing holding the pulley and tube assembly in the housing is one of Allis' unusual tapered bolt with locknut similar to the one used to retain the starter.

That is correct -- I have the cupped press in cover and no belt pulley. My WD45 starts with 20... It's a 1955. Thanks very much for the info. I will contact Agco with the parts number as I want to address this small leak. Again, my thanks to all who weighed in.
