Live and learn - Finding you cannot weld AC plow beams and get any strength at all w 6013.  
Will any rod work or must I use bolts for any connections ?
Trying to make a 3 pt carrier from a scrap plow. I think I can do it with bolts - after I cut the welds out and match holes. Glad I don't have to make a living working in the shop. Thanks for any suggestions.  Larry Miller

THe material is high strength steel. I dont know exactly what it is. I cut the beam as needed and  VEE notched so i could get full penetration. Preaheat the steel to 200 degrees with a propane or accet torch. Weld with 7018 rod, several passes. Chip out the flux good between passes. YOu must get full penetration. I also added a 3/8 reinforcing plate on the side in the high stress areas.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

I took the beam and cut two long pieces off of it and welded one onto each side in the first photo... in the third photo you can see the 3/8 plate probably 8 inches long that spans across the welded joint as a stiffiner. I reused the vertical plate to  make the top link attachment for a 3 point... Kids wanted a 3 bottom plow to use on the JD 3020. Way to big for my little B !

It can't hurt to post heat the area also and wrap it in insulation to let it cool as slow as possible.
