 Topic: PPG vs Dupont

I'm getting ready to paint my first tractor (D17). I've narrowed my paint choises down to PPG Omni and Dupont Centauri. My local ppg dealer doesn't stock the PPG DAR because of lack of demand. Any opinions on which would be the best on a cost vs benefit basis? I'm leaning toward the dupont but I can get the ppg cheaper. I have a semi-proffessional painter at my disposal but all he has ever used is Dupont. Any input from your experiences would be helpful.

The centauri is a real nice paint I use to use it when I painted cars.The omni I use alot lately and it flows out nice .The only thing that I have found is it chips easy.I try to use the delfleet essental when I can ,it is very hard when it drys and it won't chip but its a little tricky to put on. But if you are going to use it and show it you will be glad you put it on .I never did a tractor with centauri only because I have to travel 35 miles to get it ,the omni is only a an 8 mile drive.I just painted a ferguson 40 use Napas synthal enamel paint and it was a nice match and shined out beautiful but the drying time was pretty long .

I didn't realize that Dupont still offered the Centari line. Our 29' pickup was painted back in the mid 80's with Centari and still shines nice yet and is very durable. The ole' girl has some stone chips and a tiny crack here n' there, but JoAnna drives the wheels off of that thing so we got our money's worth outta that. It still looks good for a paint job thats almost 30 years old. My body man uses the Dupont Nason line when he paints my Tractor parts for me. Nice shine, and seems to be pretty durable also...

I started using the ppg delfleet essential, painted my d19 with it and liked it, it is a little harder to spray but will hold up better and you can touch up bolts with a brush and they look just as good. Make sure you have the right activator for the temp you are working in. It mixes 8 parts paint to 1 hardner and 1 activator. It is a heavy paint so watch out for runs. the delfleet number for po#2 is 1408. this paint weighs in at 10 pounds per gallon before anything added.

I questioned my dupont dealer about Nason and he said it is good paint but it doesn't cover quite as good so it will take more coats to get as good of coverage as centauri eating up some of the savings in cost.

MrBill, I've had good luck spraying Nason Ful Cryl. As far as yourself, I would pick a paint that your supplier carries and is familiar with! Any top name paint these days is going to give great results as long as the prep and painting is done correctly. Nothing is more frustrating, however, than running short of paint and having to order more, or drive 20+ miles just to get paint. My 2 cents........

You're lucky. The only place less than 30 miles away for me is NAPA with Martin Seynour which doesn't have a paint code for persion orange #2.

That is one thing more that I like about the delfleet essental the coverage is great .On a wd45 I would buy 5 quarts of paint just so I knew I had enough because most of the time when the prepwork is done and I am ready its late at night .Sometimes I have to open the 5th quart and sometimes I don't.with the delfleet I have about quart left and you do not reduce it .

i have used nason and agcos,valspar, and centari, like the centari the best, use a good sealer primer, and correcr reducer and hardner and you have good luck
