Ok so there is one big pull left locally and its indoor....classes start at 3000lbs and go up....I wanna cut the fat on my 45 WC. I see the obvious things. Take off the deluxe seat and go to a solid mount, remove the cultivator lift, rear wheel weights, factory air cleaner assembly....anyone see anything easily removable? Locally at Fair pulls I do terrible with the pro sleds they run but my I'm told I can do ok down there so I figure I'll give it a try.....Here are some pics of what I'm working with.

Oh and I'm not sure what weight I can get down to and I'm around 330lbs myself which I know needs figured in. I do know I'll be running either 3 or 5mph pace classes.

Put those rear weights just ahead of the axle and get rid of a couple of the front weights. Make a drawbar a little longer and rely on the downward pull of the chain to the sled for shifting that weight toward the back. We had a WC puller who ran nothing but center-mounted weights and did rather well. His engine had too much power and he obviously had a '45 crank on his motor. That had nothing to do with his traction, though.

The Drawbar is actually back as far as it can be by local rules but I have to get the hitch height for this pull coming up....I may get rid of the clevis and use a junk snap coupler drawbar backwards....use the snap coupler eyelet as my hook point. I'm running a stock 201 right now with a D17 Gov spring....I'd love to put a Gleaner E or something in it for now till I have the money to build the engine I want.

If you build a bracket to mount those rear weights ahead of the axle, build it in such a way that you can easily move the weights forward or rearward. There's a point where there is a balance.  In theory you shouldn't need any weights in front. Positioning is a trial and error thing, of course.

Lights, fenders, pto gearbox, lighter race battery, lower fuel level, aluminum parts,etc. High gears in the tranny and milling metal off heavy parts like the flywheel and such will add up. Just how bad do you want to win is the answer to the question......

Make your weight brackets out of aluminum, lose the fenders, fender brackets/brake covers.  I made some out of 10g metal just don't have a parking brake, lights, generator, and the stuff you said.  If you get serious, get some pressed steel wheels, worn tires (there is alot of weight on those tires you have there).  i am also a big believer of putting the weight out as far as you can in front.  If your club follows like the national guys you can be 11ft from center of rear axle to front of the weights.  I like the drawbar as high as possible and as much weight on the nose as I can get.  If I pull the 5500 or 6500, I LOAD the belly bar full, then mix front a back.  I run 15.5's on mine with light wheels and all the un-needed stuff off of it and I can get it in a 3000# class with a 75# IH on the nose

If you're running a stock 201 with a mag, (i can't tell from your picture) you could take the generator, starter, battery lights and wiring off and save some weight. Of sourse you would have to crank start it, but a 201 isn't hard to start if it is right.

Benny i plan on goin to farm show in january for the pull. i am taking my narrow front 17 and my uncles wide front 17  mine is stock but my uncle is building an engine as we speak.  just might meet up with some of the ppl from here.

See if you can find some 14.9x38 Firestone Field & Road tires. They always worked well. Put those doughnut spares from a car on for front rubber too.

I dont want to run 38's...at least not yet. With stock WC high gearing and a stock 201 it'll kill me in pace class. I'd like a set of 14.9 or 16.9 28's or even go those size's in a 30. Anyone have any?
