i dont' suppose any of you have built small wagons to pull behind mowers/atv's? i'm wanting to build one to pull behind the simplicity, but i'm thinking around 4'x8' maybe? i had planned on using rear tires/wheels from a riding mower, but i'm not sure how i should go about building a frame. just build a rectangular platform and attach axles to it, or build it just like a regular wagon is built. it needs to haul about 1000lbs. basically a couple kids/adults to go up and down the driveway......barn to pond....whatever the case may be.
anyway, if you built one before i'd love to hear/see your ideas.

Northern tool sells a kit for a 4'X 8' wagon that I believe is rated at 1000 lbs. Imagine it would be hard to beat unless you have the time and mechanical know how. Just my 2 cents

thanks for the tip. i just pulled up their website and found just about what i'm looking for. a farm wagon style platform that adjusts to 78" long and is 46" wide. 16" tires. but at $300 it's a tad more than i wanted to spend. i'd think i could come up w/ "extra" material for the frame, and i have plenty of lumber left-overs from building the house.
but, i guess if i can't find much in the way of metal for the frame, i'll know where i can get a complete set-up.

joe, i think "good plan" is a bit of an uderstatement. that's exactly what i'm wanting. now....materials, time, and know-how are next on my shopping list.

Skip, I bought one of those 'farm wagon kits' at a local Princess Auto(Canadian version of Northern Tool). Paid $249 on sale..I couldn't buy the 4 tires and steering stuff for that,let alone steel AND figure out the 'geometry' to get the steering to work( I tried...).
Used 4by4s as the rails,covered with 2by6s for the floor. Worked out so well, neighbour bought it and I did it all over again for myself !!

i was trying to find some rear mower tires/wheels....now i'm kinda thinking the same thing. i can always put on bigger wheels/tires later if it's an issue. i was also kinda wanting a "from scratch" project too....but when i inject a little reality, i think the kit would actually get finished.
