Time to paint our C.
Called the local AGCO dealer, they don't have ANY AllisChalmers paint, of any shade, said they hadn't sold it in years, don't stock it and couldn't tell me what type (oil, urethane...) it is. They mentioned there is a good automotive paint store in town. "Is there anything else we can help you with?" All the other real tractor stores stock paint, even for 70 year old equipment. Went to the local TSC. They used to have Valspar Restoration and the Valspar implement paint, with hardeners and reducers, in quarts and gallons. Now that store only has Valspar (both lines I think) in rattle cans. They do have Majic Town&Country Tractor, Truck&Implement oil based paint in cans. They have the Majic hardener and reducer. Is the Valspar the right Persian Orange #1 shade? How about the Majic (in quart can #8-0965 Allis Chalmers Orange), what shade is that? Will Majic paint hold up, is it modern or a 60 year old chemistry? Is the Majic brand what forum users are referring to when they mention TSC paint? I have 1/2 gallon Nason Ful-Poxy 491-16 Epoxy Primer. Should I use that? What to do. Thanks. |

I don't beleive AGCO offers Persian # 1 bulk anymore.
Just spray cans. I'll send you some codes for a paint shop to mix in a PM. |

Valspar Restoration Allis Orange is not PO1. It's kind of a mix of Corp. Orange and PO2 in my opinion.

The closest thing to a acceptable PO#1 in a ready made Alkyd Enamel is Vansickle AC PO#1 from Attwoods or other farm stores that sell it. I think Hershel Adams alkyd is the same thing. It is not a real high high gloss like a automotive urethane or acrylic but the color is a very realistic PO#1 I have not used it but others on the forum and folks who care to use a inexpensive Alkyd PO#1 like it.

I carry the PO#1 and the PO#2 in gallons and I fill my own aerosols. I can ship it UPS also. It will be comparable to the acrylics you buy at the auto parts stores. My colors will match the 60080 and 29047 numbers that everyone refers to. I just finished painting a JD spreader for a customer and he brought JD green Van Sickle super premium paint. If Van Sickle is the only paint I could use I would quit my painting business. It dries slow therefore the longer it takes to dry the more dirt it collects. I was also a sticky mess when I finished. These are just 2 things you don't have to worry about when you use a better quality paint. I could go on........but I won't

I wonder, if I mix Ford Red and John Deere Yellow
in the right proportions, will I get Persian Orange #1. Need to ask a 1st grader. From the AGCO Heritage catalog: Persian Orange #1, Quart 79021641 Do they still carry this? |
