SM70 Deutz Allis discbine

Bearing on top drive shaft that goes across the width of the mower above the disc bed went out. Man, what a job to get at it. Remove entire hitch. Remove hitch mounting plate. Remove input gear box. Drop mower bed and open top so can drive shaft out. The machine looks naked and every bolt has a lock nut and there are many bolts. Guessing 50 to 60 bolts that all turn hard right to the last turn. Wish I had a bigger air compressor for my old air wrench. I discovered that the grease doesn't flow well to the far right end of the shaft housing. In fact the operators manual doesn't mention this long square tube as a housing at all. I thought the disc bed drove completely from the left side. Nope, half is driven from the left via this shaft. I am going to put a top plug at that end so I can visually see if grease flows to that end and ad if I need. Another thing. Not one housing has a drain so you can change the oil or even drain it for repair. Pull the gear housing up and the grease runs out all over as the bottom of the housing is the actual frame of the mower. Same with the drive chain housing. Only way to drain it is to take the side cover off and grease runs everywhere. You could pull one of the small bolts that holds the cover on but the grease would take a week to drain through that little hole. Like it otherwise but clearly not Allis designed. Rant over.
