True or False.  All D14s had 6v pos ground systems.

I was told late ones had 12v systems, but all documentation indicates that to be wrong.

Mine has 12 alternator with neg ground.  Thought it to be original, but close inspection says I should wear my glasses when buying tractors.  It has a 12v starter.  Somebody went to the trouble to replace the starter but left the narrow belt pulley on the alternator.  I bought a D14 belt which won't fit.  Dah.  This all started when it over heated.  i found the fan belt to be loose.  Generator adjuster wouldn't go out far enough.  Bought new D14 belt. Too small.  Put old belt back on and made an extender for the belt adjuster.  Now that I can see the back of the alternator, I noticed one of the wires in the plastic plug is not hooked up.  Do ya think this is one reason it wont charge?  Can't fix this till I get the carb. running right.  They put a Zenith 12566 replacement carb. on it. Now where do you figure they found that?  I have a D14 organ downer,  where I can get the MS carb.  and a generator that will need rebuild.  Problem is, I really like the 12 volt start.  I guess to keep this from being just another general rant, I would like to know if I can get a wide belt pulley for the Alternator which has the fan built into the pulley.

D14's after SN 19,000 had 12 volt pos systems with a generator. You can probably get a wider pulley for your alternator.

Chuck is on top of this one Dave.  My D14 is 12v pos ground from the get go, Ive know the tractor all its life, also it has the black plastic steering wheel with the center that says "power steering".

Dave , both my D-14s now have 12V alternators on them. One Ford the other GM. The GM one is the newer CS-nnn style, smaller in diameter with an small oval connector.Works great.The 'trick' is to use an air gun to 'burb' off the nut and pulley from your genny and put it onto the alternator.Been fine for me for the past 8 years.Since I do a lot of short time yard runs, the alternator charges up the batteries better than the slow,low output gennys do.

I have an early D14 with the wide belt and an early D15 with the narrow belt.
What is the width of your crank pulley? it may have come with a narrow belt. My D15 had an alternator on it, I just changed it back to generator on yesterday. Had to change the pulley from the alt to the genny. Bob

Early D14's were 6VPG. The later ones are 12VPG. I offer wiring systems for both. If you need a wide pulley for your Alternator, the original gennie shaft, and any Delco Alt shaft are the same size. I also offer a CNC machined pulley for the wide belt for those who don't have a Gennie pulley to swap over.  HTH
