I have a two row ac planter (dont know what model - see photos).  Anyway, below the top plate that the seed box sits on there is the driven gear shaft that turns the seed plates within the box.  If you take the top plate off and look at the shaft there is a hole in the shaft that I assume houses a roller pin that keeps the gear side from protruding out.  Just need to confirm if this is the case, thanks.

I'm not sure of the model.  We had 70, 72, and then 74 units.  The 74 had gauge wheel so I don't think that is it.  But, you are right about the roll pin.  I believe that the bevel gear goes on teeth inward and the roll pin held it on.  If I remember right you had to be careful that the roll pin was not too long.
