I'm looking for parts for this new-to-me disc set. I believe its a no. 9a but not sure. The parts in this picture from this site back in 2011 are kinda what I'm looking for. I need one bottom side bearing holder and some other stuff. My unit has rubber bearings...not wood. Could also use a spool that runs through the bearing.
Does anyone have a lead on where I could find any of this? new or used...doesn't matter.

Don't think there's such a thing as rubber bearings. Rubber seal on end of metal bearing?

Someone probably replaced the wood with some kinda rubber. I took measurements of the last wood bearings we sold in case someone wanted to make them. Pretty sure we have some parts. Just have to get part numbers to look them up.

Thanks, Mike!! I'll get the part #'s to you today. Maybe those bearings ARE wood. So much grease and "stuff" on them its hard to tell. They've been sitting in a field for 30+ years!!

Mike,
You were right!! the bearings ARE wood. just so old and greasy I couldn't tell at first look. Here's some pix of what I'm looking at... I could use 1 of the bottom half of the bearing "holder"...part #300236. Also, one of the bearing spacers (number is hard to read...309020 or 309C20?)

If you have measurements and a template you can make your own wood bearing or order some poly form McMaster Carr and make some out of poly. They even some some poly\teflon material specfically made to use as bearings material.
I started doing that for my rotary hoe that has wooden bearings. I made a few but never followed throguh and made a bunch to get it all fixed up. It's on the list.

Thanks for this Allis Dave. Could you provide some specifics? I don't mind making my own but not sure...are we talking wood lathe? What species of wood? or on the poly/teflon...where would I search for this stuff? Thanks!

Allis Dave...I took the plunge and ordered Slippery UHMW Poly rod from McMaster! Got enough to replace all the bearings. Will drill out on my press. Given that you've made some, what hole size did you go with? The spools looks like its around 1-7/8"...the wood bearings I have today are 2". I assume they've been worn down to some degree.

if what you have is in fact a 9A the part number for the bearing is 300224 , i already inquired about these with the guy in upstate ny and he claims he doesnt have any. they are made of rock maple as was very common practice in those days. To install soak them in hot oil for a while then install and grease them like you got the grease for free. re grease every 3 to 4 hours
this woodex outfit will made anything you can dream up but its comes with a price i got a quote a number of years back and it was eye watering and at this point its probably doubled since then. the rifle bored hole down the middle if you are making them i think is 1 15/16 and the hole on the side is 1 inch if i remember correctly.

The bearing on my rotary hoe are very different. They are made of flat pieces. I put two of them together and clamped them in the drill press and drilled a hole down the center for the axle.
You get the idea. just measure your axle to figure out what exle hole you need. These aren't precision bearings here. As long as you get everything close you'll be fine. |

Thanks for this, Juniorp53. the measurement for the ID on the bearing is very helpful!! I have a guy doing some cast iron weld on the part that's broken...fingers crossed it works!
