   What is the preferd air cut off pad long or short, I plant medium rounds and have always used the long pads? Thanks Dave

	Long pad only. Destroy all short pads.

	I could never get good singulation on corn with the long pads. Too many doubles. We no tilled and used agrox to nix the wire worms. Seed got kind of sticky if it was humid. Talc and graphite on the seed helped.

	You were using the wrong sized seed discs for the seed being used. For a few seasons (77 Air Champ units) they had only small-medium-large corn discs. Finally in about 1979? they came with a "small medium" disc to fit between small and medium sizes. Also, the best singulation always came from graded seed and medium rounds. Any round was better than any flat. I serviced probably 50 of those air planters and I've spent lots of time on my knees digging up seed to see what was going on and long pads were best if everything else I've mentioned was done right.

	What was the problem you encountered with the short pads? I found them useful. We spent a good bit of time before we went to the field rotating the press wheel till the disk turned two full turns counting the seeds dropped. I could find the combination that would drop the closest to 90 seeds. There was also a small plate that could be removed to change the depth of the seed in the pick up area. I really liked the units. Right or wrong we valued the genetic package and appreciated we could change the set up to plant whatever size and shape of seed. And well graded medium rounds were the best if you could get them.

	We always used the long pad to prevent skips. The only exception was when we used the blower systems off the White planter and upped the air pressure to 2.5 WC " of pressure - Then we used the short pads and added the tickler brushes off the milo kit to knock off doubles. This worked almost to perfection. The issue with the electric blowers was as the units aged the pressure dropped due to wear, resistance , dirt and leakages. We ran 2 12 row units on a 390 frame with a White blower system ... AC should have had a system to allow more pressure and also made it adjustable . Edited by tbran - 14 Apr 2021 at 11:34pm

	I agree with all of this. The goofiest thing that happened was a corner of a broken kernel lodged in the vent hole of the disk. It did take a good bit of effort to get units to work near perfect.

	how and what did you have to do to plumb in a gauge to measure your pressure?

	A long rubber hose shoved thru the seed box into the seed disc chamber with a very low pressure gauge connected. Dump a couple gallons of seed in it to seal everything up. We are talking less than 2 psi pressure.
