At that auction was a New Idea 319 mounted picker and also a JD 237 mounted picker. Did anyone see what they sold for?

That’s big money, but you can’t buy a non computer tractor today that performs as well as the 6060. Wouldn’t trade ours for a new any brand. It was well taken care of for sure. I hear from so many farmers that have bought the new tractors and most have been disappointed. Constant field visits from the dealer at outrageous prices. Computerized transmissions that require a laptop to be serviced. I can see farmers bringing back their older tractors and fixing them to put them back in service. Small and medium farmers locally are already doing it. So $21K for a 63 hp tractor doesn’t seam totally out of line to me. Especially with a cab and in excellent condition.

Doesn’t the saying go about a fool and their money will soon part? I could see a nice 4wd cab 6080 be worth in the 20’s but not a 6060. Those tractors can easily go way past 10,000 hours so kinda pointless to pay a huge premium for ultra low hours. |

So it's original 1981-1984 price is what it nearly sold for 35 years later? It's a 1800hr 2wd 6060 with original factory cab & power shift rear rims. Thats amazing!

I agree with you farm across the river from me has a JD about a year out of warranty has had JD dealership come out twice at the tune of just under $1K each time to do something with the electronics. They called me to come over with with my 185 to unload a load of hay for them 2nd time it stopped moving.Have no desire to own any of the electronic nightmares being sold these days.

Says more about the US Dollar than the tractor really.Gold was a little over $400 oz back in 1981 today about $1500 oz. Dollar has less than 1/3 the buying power now.In 1981 Dollars it was bought with tractor sold for around $6000.

Another way to look at it is if it'll go 10,000 hrs it has 80% of its life left.A new lesser quality 65 HP tractor would run $50K+.If I have $50K in hand I'll take the 6060 and keep the $30K,guarantee in 10 years I'll be way ahead money wise. And the resale value of the two tractors probably won't be that far apart.

Thanks for clarifying the dollar value. If I understand your correctly, you're saying now in 2019, this AC 6060 was actually sold/bought for only $6000 of 1980's currency?

To give an Idea about how much value the US Federal Reverse Notes, commonly called the US Dollar has lost in 1979 I talked to the local Ford dealer about a new Ford F250,V8,4speed,4WD he offered it to me $6300.I ended up buying a low mileage 1976 3/4 ton 4WD for $3600.

Glad to see it bring BIG money but if it were mine I would be lucky to get half that considering AC has been out of business for 34 years. How many Forum members would have paid that much?

I really don’t think it’s out of line all things considered. We still farm with all AC and gleaner. As said before, that’s a bargain compared to newer tractors and I know they are at least as reliable if not more. And remember, 60 horse today is not the same as back then. You would have to buy an 80 horse tractor today to keep up with it. We made the decision 5 years ago to to keep running AC and just buy more of them. The advantage is if one breaks down just grab another and go. If your only new tractor breaks down your stuck. We now have 3 nice 8000 series and a 6080. I would person rather pay good money for a nice low hour AC than roll the dice on a newer one. Edited by wekracer - 25 Aug 2019 at 10:12am |

Thanks for the offer Eldon on the 227 and 237 pickers. I have a 237 already on a 3020. Wouldn't mind to have that 319 but that was too far away from IN, but prices were cheap.
