I’m looking for a 302 ho. Must be a roller motor and prefer the Mustang motor.
I’m gonna make fish habitat out of the ole 6banger in my work truck. |

Hmm. Fish habitat. That's a new one. Had a 5.0 HO given to me one time for a 49 F1 that I had but traded it with the truck on two kids. Turns out 2 adults and 2 car seats can't fit on a 4 foot long bench seat

Thad, I don't have one, but interested in more data............ Are you looking for a newer 5.0 with fuel injection, variable cam timing, computer controls............ or an older version.. What year is the work truck ?

Older EFI. The HO motors are a roller cam motor and can run any low zddp oil. There is a 347 kit that makes them work well in a truck. The truck is an 83 f150 4x4 carbureted. The v8 will be carbed as well. The truck carries over 1000 lbs of tools every day. |

Unless your ride has a TRUCK 4/5 gear manual tranny with bo-lo, you'll be disappointed with the 5.0 in it. I had an 86, 4WD, 5.0, 5 speed and it was ok, NOT OK...until the gear shift lever broke 2" above the tunnel ! Inline six has tons of btm end torque unlike a V-8. That I found out the hard way when I had a 304 put into my 73 CJ-5 that had a 258-6. I couldn't plow snow nearly as well.. yeah FAST down the road , but terrible off road. Jay

It’s a C6 automatic and the 302 would become a 347 with a RVCam. I’ve found a good deal on the 347 kit but I also found a 351W factory 4v I’m interested in. |

Hey there Thad,,,now you're talkin my kind of thinkin,,,they just ain't no substitute for cubic inches and the 351W would fit right in that HUGE engine compartment,,,only'ist concern is if the 351W would bolt up to THAT C6,,,,?/ Seems I've had issues findin some ford blocks gots different trans bolt patterns,,,,,UMMMm you could also look you for a 400M for all the torque you would need haulin all them tools PLUS even a trailer,,,,

Joe that Windsor will bolt right up to that c6. 👍The 400 not. I’ve had several 351m/400’s. I don’t care for them specially the 351m. If I was gonna go that route I’d stuff a 390 in there. They’re my favorite. |

Hey there,,,I had plumb forgot them 390's,,,, ![]() HMMmmm,,,I thought the 351M and the 400M's were the same bellhousing bolt pattern,,,seems like way back then,,when My 3rd oldest son wanted a 65 Mustang and we had shoehorned a 351W in there and then had a heck of a time gettin the right tranny to bolt up to the 351W ,,,,,think we wount up hookin up one out of a mid sized ford fairlane,,I think,,,been too long for this old memory,,,,,, That little Mustang was a screamer as I had put a nice cam with 10.5 pistons and used the GT heads port matched to the intake and the headers,,,,,

351W/C6 commonly found in '70 Mustangs.... Kid(22) who painted my Willys, tore apart his C6 to put some 'kits' into it.

I had a 351M in a 1989 F250... I thought it had the power.. the "M" is "modified" as it is a 400 block with "I think" smaller pistons to get the 351 CID..

351M, 400, 429, and 460 all bolt up. 352 , 360, 390, 427, 428 and a few truck motors make the FE family and all volt up. 265, 289, 302, 351w and 351c all bolt up to the same bell housing as my 6 banger. A 351c never came in a truck. Now I wonder if the old 6 bangers from the early 60’s bolt the same as a 272, 292 or 312? |

If you found the right 400 block, it would bolt up. In 72 they did make 400's with the Windsor style bell housing. A 400 is a great truck motor built correctly because it has a longer stroke than a 460 does. 351C parts fit the 400. The reason they were such thirsty slugs as built was the low compression ratio and retarded cam timing. Simply advancing the cam 6 degrees will wake them up, but with poor quench they're prone to detonation. The same is true of the FE truck motors from the 70's. They simply lowered the piston crown in a 360 by using 390 pistons. It brought the compression down, but they lost all of the quench and made them detonation prone as well. Retarded cam timing and low compression got them to pass emissions, but made them thirsty and under powered.

As far as 302 blocks go, the roller years are the weakest. You really want one from the mid 70's and back including a 6 bolt 289.
