My biggest bowl to date. I like it! Blank was 6-3/4" layers thick by 11" across.

Greg if you are interested, there is a big craft show. If you Google Callahan Craft shows. You will find it. Dad gum it, it is in the town east of Omaha. This getting old and forgeting the name of the town sucks. There are other fellows that spend their winter's making things like you have and then making the circuit selling them.. you might come to the show and check things out. In the mean time it's looking good.

Cool bowl! So Greg... what does your blank look like BEFORE you turn it? You glue a bunch of blocks together to make the blank?

I cut and glue up the pie shape times 6-using a strap clamp. After the glue is set I sand both surfaces flat on my bench top belt sander. I then drill for the dowel in the center-helps with orientation and cosmetics! I then glue up the 6 blanks into this! Once dry I cut the blank from the bottom at 22.5 degrees before chucking it on the lathe-helps establish the shape. I figure I have 4 to 5 hours in prepping the blank and 1.5 hours in the actual turning/sanding/sealing! |
