So while my dad and I are finishing up his ‘37 WC I brought the WF in to change the fluids and replace a headlight bulb.Well that turned into a broken headlight glass which turned into a total rewire and new glasses on both lights which then put me in hot pursuit of some sort of replacement amp gauge pod...which was installed prior to my dad buying it.I wanted to do away with it but he insisted on keeping an amp gauge on it.The prior owner, bless him made a box out of bent tin, riveted, painted and mounted to the left side light stem.Well I went back to my drag racing stuff and found this gauge pod from GlowShift and tried to hide it but to where the gauge could be seen. And I ended up right back on the light stem. It’s tight, doesn’t move and while aesthetically it’s not perfect(I think I should’ve sprayed it PO) but after I got it all on painting it didn’t occur as I was just trying to find something that worked....I think it’s ok. What says y’all...yay or nay?

Well in my opinion something that is bolted on like say the alternator doesn't reduce the value. If next owner doesn't like it they can simply remove it and go back to the generator. In the mean time you have a modern system. Others will disagree but in the end it's your tractor and set up the way your Dad wants it. Something I don't like is where some bozo takes a sawsall and cuts a big hole in the hood to mount something.

Nice Tractors! Especially that styled WF. Looks like mine. I agree 100% with B26240. Its your Tractor, do what you want. Being an old ex-Drag Racer myself, I think it looks great! I have a bunch of those old pods to. The ones I have are square. I think they were Stewart Warners or somethin'. Nice shop to. Hey even the floor is orange! Cool! LOL! Steve@B&B

Thanks y’all,I appreciate it.And that’s what I was trying to shoot for to be able to set this up how Dad wants it but be easily removable should it need be.I just had to make use of the already drilled holes in the light stem which could be easily replaced...in short trying not to make it worse and give Dad his gauge.I think if he didn’t use this tractor so much he would’ve had me leave it off.
@B26240 I agree! I’ve seen nice tractors at sales/auctions with some unorthodox hack jobs that’ll make ya cringe. |

Indeed. That being said, I happen to have grandpa's tractor, and he made a few custom modifications to it back in the day and I have tried to leave them alone as I work on fixing it. It has the "used, farmer fix" feel to it. Nothing mangled, but just a few small things here or there.

MD,
Looks like you have many stories to tell and many pictures to show us of your AC collection. To answer your question. I do just a little custom work on my WD series dash panel and electricals. Yep my tractor I do what I want. I try to be tasteful and have something that a AC guys would have yo look at for a minute. I think your pod looks better than the sheet metal version. Thanks for posting the great pictures! Nice work area. You have some tractors in paint so near completion! Great we expect more pictures! Regards, Chris

Chris ,yessir that’s what I try to do when the situation arises.I’ve got a few pics I need to share somewhere.Speaking of cringeworthy mishaps per-say I’ve got some of my grandads old planters he sold that ended up into the woods of an old goat farmer we rescued a few years back. They’re hooked up to the WD in the photo above. |

When I tracked them down they were 3point converted so I had to convert it back to snap coupler. Yes that’s a nice Hickory grown up in the frame! Had to take the drill wheels, well split the frame get get it free.

Is there really a prettier color than AC Orange? I think not! Nice tractors. Never get tired of seeing them saved by those that love them. I used a gauge pod just like that on my XT for a oil pressure gauge. I like it.

Are you running a Zenith carb on your WD? Can’t get mine to stop flooding even after rebuild. Had it apart 3 times now. Runs well but cant get it to stop flooding.

Yessir that’s what I’m running on it. Is yours just flooding or you mean flooding to the point of leaking gas? Most cases the gremlin or gremlins is going to be the float and or needle and seat getting trash.Has your needle got the rubber tip on it? The float may be binding or need adjusting too. |

Has new needle and seat, float is good. Float height is correct. Doesn’t flood when running, just when gas is first turned on. I agree it seams as if the float is sticking. It fits the bowl and doesn’t appear to hit. Going to pull it off again tomorrow, ready to toss it and get another carb. Usually dont have this much trouble, sure is trying my patience.

Haha....I feel your pain.I had one on my Dads C that gave me a fit so I put it down to keep from chunking it out to the woods. While I was at work Dad tore it apart again and I believe he said the float was binding but I can’t recall right now on what point but I remember him saying he polished the pivot pin while he tore it apart and thus the 4th time was the charm. They can be finicky for sure. |

Take a piece of super fine steel wool and polish the needle. It might have a little tiny burr on it making it hang up allowing the float bowl to fill. Had to do that with quite a few customer's Carbs that I rebuilt... HTH Steve@B&B

MD,
finally caught up with you! That planter restoration really looks great! Wow had the tree growing through it too! I drive by one that the guy made into a flower planter! I agree on the carb. I had a Marvel apart several times and finally used parts from another carb to get it to work. Thanks for posting the picture of your WD and planter at the show! Awesome! Regards, Chris
