I stopped and looked at an HD6G this afternoon that is for sale. I kind of wish the guy would have priced it so far out of my reach that I could have turned and walked away without having to think about it. But he has it about in the scrap iron price, so now I'm tempted. The guy selling it has a salvage yard. Bought it I suppose 3 or 4 years ago, and it never moved since he un-loaded it. he says he knows it runs, but that's about it. Looking it over, I am not too concerned about much except maybe the transmission. The shifter just doesn't feel quite right, but I've never been on a 6 before to know how they are supposed to work. Aren't they just a standard 5 forward, one reverse transmission? This shifter seems to do some "rotate thing" that I am not sure about. And without it running, it isn't possible to get a good test of the gears. If I do get serious about it, I imagine I could take a couple batteries down to it and try to get it running. It has two big old 8D batteries in it, in a series to be 24 volts. Otherwise, this guy said he could put a payloader on each side of it, pick up and set it on my trailer. Can anyone enlighten me on the transmission? Thanks, Darrel

the hd6g will have four forward and two reverse gears, the gear shifter is easy to remove and tighten up the loose joints so that's no biggie, be nice to hear it run and how is the undercarriage on it, is that an early model or late model, the early has a hood that slopes up in the laters the hood slopes down to the front, Rick

Believe that shifter is the same as the HD5 and the cross shaft and pin wear along with the 2 bolts that hold it in place - rebuilding it is easy

Life lesson: If you’re being chased by a lion, you’re on a horse, to the left of you is a giraffe and on the right is a unicorn, what do you do? You stop drinking and get off the carousel.

Thanks for the responses. I should be on my way after this little gem, but I am sort of torn between it and a payloader. Payloader is much more $$$$, but will be way more practical. But fun is practical, too,......Maybe...? LOL! Darrel
