7580 fuel pump

We have a 7580 serial # 29xx  that was factory fitted with the electric lift pump.  the factory pump was long gone when we acquired it. We have been through several holly red pumps and after the last one we bypassed it to finish up but dont want to run without for fear of starving injection pump and fuel bleeds back after sitting.  The red pumps say they are not rated for suction so i have to assume this is why they fail after a year or two.  Is there a better pump folks are using or is the solution just to mount the red pump near the bottom of the tanks and pull from there instead of the draw tube?  
Agco shows a # for the pump but i would assume its High $$ and aftermarket anyway.
Also when looking for pumps what kind of flow numbers are we looking for?

Three choices for me 1 pay agco 2 in the cross over hose install a tee and mount an electric pump down low 3 not sure how big the fuel gauge plate is if it's the bigger one or if there is another blank on top use a fuel pump in the tank from say f350 dieselonly takes about 1.5 hole

I got a very heavy duty electric pump from inj pump Ed for my 8550. I mounted it right down at the very bottom of the fuel tanks. I can't remember exactly how I mounted it, but there is only a short little tube that I had custom bent going to it from the tank, so it doesn't have to suck at all. It has an adjustment screw on it to set pressure, and I put a fuel pressure guage up on the fuel filter housing. I can't remember what pressure I run it at (that's because I haven't even crawled in that tractor this year; my son did everything with it.) It works pretty well. I think that on a 7580, it could be set up the same way. Darrel

I'd use a black Holley, or Big End fuel pump for a 7580, and mount it as close to the tank as possible. The injection pump on the 7080/7580 have a light load advance, in addition to the regular speed advance, and there's a lot of parts in there that don't like air getting in the fuel inlet. The job of the electric pump is to ensure the injection pump is constantly fed.

This topic brings up a question....  I have a Maroon belly 7080 without an electric pump.  It seems to do OK as-is but would it be a good idea to add an electric pump to improve the performance/lifespan of the injection pump?

ED  when you say close do you also mean to pull from the bottom?  i see the holly black pumps arnt rated for suction either and recommend gravity fed fuel.  I would be concerned about water and debris doing that but i suppose it just means being more diligent with the filters.

best setup in my opinion is have the electric be fed fuel (gravity) from the bottom of the tank. The holley pumps have a screen in the inlet to protect it. That screen does get plugged up and need cleaned on occasion. The 7080 would be a good tractor to put an electric pump on as well. The 75 was a big problem since they were having to suck fuel up from the large tanks. I've never heard of the holley pumps being damaged by making them draw fuel, but any electric pushes better than it pulls. I don't feel it would hurt making the holley pump lift fuel 4 ft, as long as it will do it, it should be fine.

way back before I was the injection pump genius you all know me as, lol! one of our customers had a 7580 we would work on for him, (we were a White/Versatile dealer) The pump had been worked on, repeatedly, by Central Motive Power in Denver, and the last time it had problems, it blew the entire advance plug off the pump lol! Put electric pump on and ran fine after that.
