Ive always wondered why some peoples gravity wagons are set up to unload on the right side. I prefer to dump mine on the left side as it's the side you climb on and off the tractor. I see so many other wagons with the shoot on the right and have purchased several that way and have to turn them around,drives me nuts.

Gravity wagons should always dump on the left but that my opinion. Drives me crazy too.

My dad has a couple that were set up to dump on the right as the feed mill/elevator we used you had to dump corn on the right in the aisle for grinding.

I set up many Unverferth-McCurdy wagons for my Dad's dealership and we always mounted them so the door was on the left. I was told so the door could be accessed with ease since most tractors had the steps on the left. Mounting on the right side is not wrong, but the theory was that you could get to the door quicker without running around the front of the tractor, pickup, or straight truck. Also, you didn't have to jump over the tongue.

Our 3 are set up to unload on the right side. Set up that way because of our layout of buildings and corn cribs. If they were on the left you would have to back them up to the elevator. Same with the granary in the barn.

I have 5 wagons, 4 were on the right and 1 on the left when I bought them. At the elevator, it's preferable to dump on the right. That suited me as I only had to switch one bed around.

I'm sure glad that it came down to.....................gravity wagons. I don't know if I have a preference when I take a dump.

I had to change all my gravity flow boxes to dump on the left side, so I could access the bin auger better, I change the one I haul grain to town in to a center dump, that change will work whether it's right or left side dump.

X2 for center dump wagon at local elevator pits. All my center dump wagons have door crank handle on left side too. Guess they could be mounted to crank on right side though??

Our two wagons dumped from the left also, but they should have been right. We had an elevator set up perpendicular to the granary going right up and through a window in the gable wall. But the way our granary was set up there was drop off to the right when looking broadside at the gable wall of the building. keeping us from driving up to the elevator as the tractor would end up driving down the hill. So every wagon was parked parallel to the elevator, off to the left side of the elevator in a driveway, with the pole pointing away from the building. Then the tractor driven around to the back of the wagon and a bucking pole was used to push the wagon forward while someone manually steered the pole to turn the wagon 90 degrees and get it aligned with the elevator, but not too close to the elevator then the flights would hit the chute, and of course too far then the grain dumped on the ground. Let me tell you as a 10 year old runt it is hard to swing a pole by hand of a loaded gravity box and get it just the perfect distance away from the elevator as you turn a corner.

The old elevator house was set up to dump on the right, of course most of the wagons back then were end dump anyway. When it was built they would have been horse drawn at that. And when we put ear corn in the crib it was dumped on the right too. Now days all the wagons we have are left side dump. The old elevator house is long gone and the pits are big enough you can easily dump from either side, probably 80 percent comes in by truck (mostly semis) but there are a few "backward" wagons left. lol

I need a big wagon that dumps on the right so i can fill a bin thats hard to access. Its on a corner and you have to turn away from the auger hopper to line up the spout which is about impossible to get right everytime. But if i could come from the other direction its a straight shot to the hopper.
