Topic: Moving a WD45 Factory Power Steering to DieselPosted: 11 Aug 2017 at 1:53pm |

Was wondering if any guys have done this on the forum. We are considering transferring a factory power steering unit from our WD45 gas to our WD45 diesel. What extra parts will I need to do this if any? I was wondering if there was a special pulley that I will need? Any extra brackets? Does anyone have any recommendations on drilling the small hole for the reservoir tank? Thanks in advance.

Power steering on a gasser have differences to the diesel. Not saying it might not work but it won't be correct. Ptetty sure the pump is diffent and maybe the tank.

What is different is the starter pull arm (prior to SN 217347-D), the throttle bracket and linkage, hoses, generator has to have the splined drive on the back, and a different pump that bolts up to the generator. Maybe you can figure out how to mount PS pump up with using one belt from the double belt drive for gen and fan...
I have scans of 6 page publication Form No. 528 for field installation of PS on WD & WD-45 gas and diesel that I can e-mail. |

Blake Allisman, sent. Hope the scans help.
Going for originality or function? Those old units sure worked great, one finger steering ease. |

Was wanting to go for originality. I will have to put the project on hold for a while until I can find the right parts. Thanks
