Fun to rake with this tractor....

But putting gas in it sucks! Talking about my one ninety (not an XT) gasser. It's a very early one with the snap coupler hitch. Has the 265 engine. I put electronic ignition on it several years ago, and it sure runs smooth. It has an excel cab on it, that I have put lots of acoustic foam in, and a nice triple layer floor mat. I wish I would have known about dyna mat at the time I did that. It has no air conditioning, but there is a blower that pulls outside air in through a filter. Usually it's cool out when raking, so this blower keeps it pretty comfortable in there. Has a new seat in it. I have it lit up really well for night time raking. Put a couple leds on it this year, and future plans are to put all leds on it. I probably have had it for about 12 years or so now, and it has raked thousands of acres, and blown some snow in the winter time, as well as had the feeder wagon on it occasionally. The controls such as throttle and hydraulics are very handy; PTO engage lever has a little to be desired, though. Has very easy one finger steering. I need to get the starter rebuilt before winter hits, though. It starts really good in the summer, but in the cold, the starter has a little drag to it, and it won't spin it over very fast. Safe to say that I love this tractor, but man, the gas it uses is certainly it's downfall! LOL! Darrel

 Think that 190 is hard on gas, hate to think what an XT gasser would do...
 and just to rake hay? they don't use very much compared to putting it on the silage chopper.
 Dad bought our 190 gas on a sale with engine troubles and I pried the engine over through the starter hole and decided I would take the oil pan off... and found the main thrust bearing had lead adheared to the crankshaft. Rubbed the bearing material off and put a new bearing in and new throttle cable and clean the main tank and have used it for close to forty years.
  It needs the two speed looked at now cuzz it has a rumble in the low range worse than when I got it started.
 and needing some new/better rear tires and a new manifold and to change the hydraulic lines under the floor attaching to the valve bank, they are the old "O" ring with a little bitty wire clip to hold the lines in... and they leak oil when one of them gets bad... and worse when they blow the line out of the fitting.
 Yup, got some LED's on it now, going to have more soon. Got the front bar light an two 27 watts on the back and going to add some front corner lights. Then I can see all around me practically.

Some day I will get the side panels back on and hook up the cab heater for winter.

JCwi, Great story about your auction 190 gasser & its bearing fix - thanks for sharing. I always liked the early 190's grill AC diamond logo followed by "One-Ninety" spelled out. Looks like yours may have lost its "Ninety"?

Cool, JC. What's the serial number of yours? Maybe yours and mine are brothers. When I head out here later on, I'll check my serial number. When I got mine, I paid 800 bucks for it on an auction. I am sure the seller was laughing at me all of the way out of their yard, because the power director slipped to beat hell. I like to think that I got the last laugh, though, because the reason it was slipping was because the operator's platform had sagged due to the extra weight of a cab being on it, and put the PD linkage out of adjustment. Took a little time, but not so much $$$ to pull the cab, weld up the platform, put some supports to the axles, and put the cab back on. PD has been rock solid ever since. If I can get my kid to do it, I'll have him post a picture or two of it. It's no show piece, but it isn't beat up either. I am sure that ole Shameless will be on here soon to tell me that if I kept it inside, it would sure look a lot better.
About the XT's and their gas consumption; well, it's not good. My brother worked for a neighbor throughout high school, who had an XT gasser. He said that pulling a sixteen foot chisel plow around the field all day would require a couple trips to the service tank. I don't know why, but my brother hated that XT more than any tractor on the planet. I don't know how many times I heard about what a piece of chit that it was. I think that is why I love my one nineties so much. It's because I had such a low expectation of them, that it wasn't too hard for them to exceed my expectations. After I bought my gasser, and having only paid 800 bucks for it, I remember regretting buying it,......until I drove it! Then I wondered what was not to like about it. Darrel

Guy I am working with always tells this story that his Dad bought one then put a 1 gallon tank on it, on the side cause letting it set the gas in the big tank disappears, vaporation or something, it was a head shaker for sure,

Yours is twice as new as mine... makin this one older. Problem is, I look at everything I use and age is taking its toll on everything... Wish we could buy these old tractors brand new again.  without all the lectronic crap they have on em today...

 Was thinking the other day what a little 433I would do in the old 190, sure would make it lot more fuel efficient.... an more hp.

I raked my hay yesterday with my D21 a little over kill but can pull the rake in 7th gear.

I have always raked with my 190 XT gas and never thought it used anymore fuel than you asked for horsepower out of it. Try doing the same job with an M Farmall and you'll know what I'm talking about. It's an awful handy chore and loader tractor that'll start at any temperature. Someday I would love to own another so I hope no one else likes them and I'll tell everybody that they used too much fuel.

I know what you mean Josh, about "it shouldn't use more gas than the horse power you're asking of it", but gassers just aren't as efficient as diesels, and I do think my one ninety is exceptionally thirsty. It's worse than my D19, and my D19 has every bit as much power if not more. I can pull into a hayfield with the rake behind my gasser, and the baler behind my XT diesel, and when the field is all raked and wrapped up, I'll put at least twice as much or more gas into the gasser as I will diesel into the XT. And I guarantee, the XT is working a heck of a lot harder. I think my one ninety gasser needs a zenith carb on it instead of the Holly. Darrel

I have a OneNiney gas that I got cheap a few years ago. Now sporting a narrow front and soon to have 23.1 x 30 rears. Bought 30" cast centres and rims years ago and finally got a super nice pair of BFG's from a G combine at Nesbitt's auction. Also grabbed the 301 gas engine and we will get the balance as rebar some day. Too far to haul. Buddy got an A II at the same auction and did the same thing. Going back with my pickup Friday to get the feeder house and belts from the A II since I just discovered mine has a spike cylinder.
