175 & 6080 electrical issues

I'm having a problem with both tractors. In both cases the fuel and temp gauges read wrong. The 175 temp gauge reads low and fuel gauge reads high. 6080 is the opposite. I've been told to check for good ground. Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to trouble shoot this. Thanks

Today I was planning on clipping pastures with the 6089 so I ran a jumper wire from the ground post on the temp fuel gauge to the negative post on the starter. No noticeable change. It does seem like both work fine until it gets warmed up. Them temp gauge goes up and fuel gauge drops. Anyone have any ideas. My next guess is sending units. Thanks

If i remember correctly, disconnect the sending wire to the fuel tank. Ground that post at the gauge with a temporary jumper and the gauge should go to full if the gauge is good. If not replace the gauge. Mine went to full so I replaced the defective sending unit. This was before I painted the tractor. Both of my gauge problems were due to poor ground after the paint job. If you have verified a good ground with a volt ohm meter, check your wiring and make sure you do not have a wire rubbing against metal some where. Test end to end with a volt ohm meter to verify continuity and that a ground doesn't exist. The gauge and sending unit wiring have to be disconnected at each end to perform these tests. Test one wire at a time with one test lead to the wire and the other to ground to check for a ground. If all checks out good, then I would replace the least expensive part first, most likely the sending unit as far as the temp gauge. Bill at Sandy Lake is very helpful when it comes to trouble shooting gauges. If he has time he will walk you thru your questions over the phone. Super nice man and very knowledgeable.

	Had similar issue with my 190xt after i painted it. I disassembled most of the tractor and had to remove paint to get to bare metal where the lights attach to the fenders. Also where the fuel tank and fender bolt together in order for the fuel gauge to work., And for the temp gauge to work, I had to remove paint in the instrument panel hole and clean up the outer gauge itself in order to get a good ground. Both gauges work great now.

	I had the same trouble with my 6080, and a new gauge fixed it.

	Thanks for the input. The neighbor up the road has a service manual. I may see if it has any more test info. My operators manual doesn't. Just a wiring diagram.

	Update. I disconnected the sensing wires from the gauges and grounded them. The gauges seem to work fine so I ordered two new sending units. Hopefully that's the fix. Thanks

	Well I finally got the 6080 fixed. I changed bothe the fuel and temp sending units and it actually made things worse. I checked the wiring and determined it was good so I ordered a new gauge. Now everything seems to work as it should. Thanks for the help. Now I need to tackle the 175 but it doesn't get used as much as the 6080.
