I'm having problems with my F. It has the 292 GM engine. The governor pushes the rod over the center point in the carburetor. Is the governor bad?

i dont know anything about that engine but most carbs have a stop at wide open. you might check and see if yours is broken/bent.

With the engine off and hand throttle wide open, lengthen the governor link rod until the carb almost touches the stop pin and no more. Every time the governor belt gets tightened, you need to check this dimension. Be sure to oil up all pivot points of the governor linkage and even on the carb throttle shaft where the throttle cable connects to.

Make sure that the governor has the right amount of oil in the case. Side plug!

Thanks for all the help. Oil is checked daily. Went and looked at the neighbors part machine, not once but twice. Still can't figure it out. Got a mechanic on the way. If he doesn't show, I was wondering if Cal could come and fix it. It's 4 miles south and one west of Woodbine. Bought it from the Knopp bros.

A qt. Of two cycle oil in every tank of gas will help. Throttle shift will get tight in bearings causing linkage to move over center spring in stead of throttle shaft. MACK

The carb stop pin that DrAllis mentions can break or simply wear thru. Mine did it. If your govenor is pushing the throttle shaft, then it is working fine. Concentrate on the carb's throttle shaft linkage & I'm sure you'll find the issue. I'll try to post a picture when time allows. |

The collar around the carburetor shaft was loose. Got it fixed and got done with the harvest. I've been telling everyone that my combine was built in 74 when the price of wheat was $4 a bushel.
