My neighbor has a 'B' that he has recently got running and it is showing far too much oil pressure. He has tried several gauges and each reads to max. (He says 100 psi.) I'm thinking the check ball in the oil pump must be stuck. This is a power unit engine has sat for many years. Any other ideas? Or does he have to split the tractor again?

Too much pressure in a B engine??? Something has to be plugged up somewhere. Generally the brass button in the front of the camshaft allows a great deal of oil to spill out into the timing gears. I don't think it would build that much if you plugged the line to the filter. If the check/relief ball in the end of the oil pump is stuck shut no oil will get into the camshaft and then to the main bearings and then the rod bearing are oiled from the spray hole in the camshaft. I'd say that the tractor needs to be split and the oil pump examined.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

Paul, There is no way the proper plunger in the front of the camshaft can build one pound of pressure with any more volume of oil the pump will put out. The ball in the pump stem would not be able stick enough to build that kid of pressure. However the hole in the stem would have to be plugged with something or a heavy spring holding the ball against the seat. To get 100 pounds of pressure it would seem the filter housing would need to be plugged under the stand pipe or a solid rod is in place of the tube. I would guess someone has done some creative engineering.

The filter housing or the stem has to be plugged. !00 psi would probably blow the filter out if it was getting to it. JMO

The hole in the filter housing entering the block over the tappets is large enough to take a lot of volume of oil (if it was not plugged). Got called to supper quite sternly. Quit before I complete my thought.

I mean the lower part of the housing like the hole the tube goes in. If that kind of pressure was getting to the filter, it would swell, if not pop.

If it didn't it would flush the inside of the filter into the crankcase.

He split the tractor yesterday and removed the oil pump, but I haven't heard back what he found.

Problem is in filter housing, not pump.

All of the oil the pump is capable of putting out can get out the stem if it is open. That is where the greatest amount of oil exits the pump normally to oil the bearings. It seems to me something has plugged both.

Sorry! Trying to plan shipment pickups with Dixie while posting. Multi tasking is not my best talent.
