D17 gas 226 , i am getting power steering fluid, I actually use auto transmission fluid in ps, in the distrubutor where the points and condenser etc. , are located I dont know what the problem is and not sure how to fix. The tractor stalled on me this morning and when I took of rotor cap and cover there was a good amount of oil in the dist chamber, is there a seal or gasket that can be replaced or what I was thinking is that the breather is plugged on the ps to create pressure I dont know. If any one knows please let me know what you think . thanks,

There is a seal at the rear of the pump that sounds like is leaking

Albert is right...the seal in the pump is leaking and needs to be replaced. Rick

The seal is leaking and possibly the needle bearing inside the pump are also worn/worn out. Why don't you change the oil and get rid of that %$#@ water like transmission fluid and use universal modern hydraulic fluid which is thicker.

I can use reg hydraulic fluid in the power steering? ok I will drain the auto transmission fluid ( it really is thin stuff I agree) and replace, albert I will call you today you maybe have the part I need? thanks all.

Or you can just take the whole ps setup off and give it to me!
(my birthday is coming soon, not many shopping days left...)

DR, I'm glad I saw this post. Am I correct in thinking that it just works better with hytran in it? Got my pedestal off and fixing leaks/bearings at the moment.

Just use the modern day hydraulic oil....everything works better and far fewer leaks.
