I am thinking of buying a B to cultivate the garden in the near future. I would like to cultivate one row at a time. How hard is it to find one row cultivators? How is a B for cultivation?

This is the older style B cultivator. Never used it, some say the B was a bit too fast for fine truck garden work. I still have not found the old style shovels I have some that are OK for show.

I have the exact same set that Rick has. I used it last year for the first time to cultivate a small tract of sweet corn. I think it worked pretty good. The only thing that I saw as a negative is I think the clearance underneath the B might be less then the clearance underneath a WD, so you could cultivate with them a little later in the year I think. I'm no expert though. Last year was my first year that I ever cultivated something. I now have a set for my WD, and I was going to use that this year. I am going to send you a PM.

Rick, I think that is the first B I've seen with the B decal that should have a B decal. What year is it? Must be after the CA came out cause of the taped holes in the torque tube. Charlie

I never cultivated until wide front tractor and rear cultivator was standard. We seldom went into the fields after the stuff was over a 18" tall anyway. Clearance under a wide front axle is not that much even on large tractors.

I may try and find a set for my CA. I already have that and it may be cheaper in the long run. I just hate pulling the mower deck out from under it. Maybe a B for my mower and my CA for field work.

If you mow with the CA no you won't like the B so much for mowing. Just by another CA with the cultivator. LOL

A late B is almost the same engine correct? Whae else would make it worse for mowing? |

The gearing is different. I could mow in 1st 2nd or 3rd with the CA depending on conditions. The B is almost too fast in 1st for some things and is too fast in 2nd for most mowing. I also have a narrow front CA and it is a big change to go to the wide front B with the same mower. It doesn't turn as short without skidding the front.
