Hi, I am new to the Forum. My sons' and I bought a Franklin logger 1967, 170L with a 3500 195H Allis Chalmers motor. According to a book my older son owns the engine was built between 1963 and 1969. The Hydraulic pump that operates the steering and blade went out. It is a Webster pump but no serial number on it. Also the only number on the Franklin was on the Tranny case which is a Rockwell ; 170L and a B in a circle. I have been spending days to weeks trying to solve getting a pump but everyone wants numbers. The pump fastens at one end to the motor by the front of the engine by the Flywheel. Does or has any one out there ever dealt with this? We are still using the skidder to drag logs. Thanks!!! Janice in Central PA.

A picture would be helpful. I'm sure that Webster pumps are no longer available. You are best to take it off and a good hydraulics shop should be able to find you a replacement that will work.

It looks like the pump mounts on the left side of the engine the same place as the hydraulic pump does on this engine in a D-21, 220, or 210. A hydraulic pump from one of the three tractors that is a bare back should work or any other standard mount pump should mount to that adapter. Will need to be close on GPM.

If you can figger out what the system GPM, and PSI is, surpluscenter.com might have something that will fit. Take the drive piece off the end, and see what the pump end looks like...

We had a Franklin Skidder back in the late 70's early 80's, had a Detroit. Bought it in Phoenix, AZ and hauled it home on my 63 Chevy C70 with a Detroit 6V53. Don't know where it ended up.
Hope you can find a pump for it or get the old one rebuilt. |

Hi John, We are still trying to solve the problem. We have come up with two options. One is send it to Davco in Maine which I found the number here on this forum or there is a place in Carlisle,PA called Turner Hydraulics that might be able to rebuild or hopefully sell us the parts to do it ourselves. It is certainly a hold up for dragging logs. Yeah, Franklin supposedly did not put an Allis Chalmers in their skidders from new. Some seem to think a tractor pump from and Allis or farm tractor might work. The pump is at a garage now and I figure I will pick it up Monday and make a decision. Wonderful, tough machine. If I knew how to post pictures I would love to show you all. Thanks for posting. Janice
