Cousin sells oil and has both SAE30, and SAE 50 transmission oils. Says I can have a barrel of either if I can use it in my 11B dozer. Both are new and untapped barrels.

Which would be better for year round occasional use?

SAE 50 would be more like a 90W / 120W transmission oil and could be transmission and final drive oils . the SAE 30 would probably be closer to 70 or 80 weight and more of a tractor oil for hydraulic and gear cases .

I've ran this oil for years in Roadranger transmissions without problem in the SAE 50 grade. Never had a power shift before this dozer so no history other than Deere to draw from. They use both grades a lot in drives, but this is much newer equipment.

One thing on oil is what they call Saybolt Universal Seconds ( a system to grade flow rate of oil at a given temp over a measured time ) - I used a Mobile DTE grade oil at Extra Heavy weight in my HD5G transmission and ring and pinon section of drive
It was rated at 1200 SSU and in SAE was 50 weight .  Yes it would be same a Duller said to use in Road Ranger .
Find out the Mfg Name of the oil and look up on their site the recommended use or application - this is how i found what Mobile DTE X Heavy was the same as in final use .
Saybolt Universal Second — (Often SUS or SSU) is a measure of kinematic viscosity used in classical mechanics. It is the time that 60 cm3 of oil takes to flow ...

IIRC it is Royal Lubricants out of Tulsa, OK.

I'll do a search and edit with findings.

The TDT0 50 is perfect for final drive gears in Cats and Allis s.
The TDT0 30 is perfect for Cat powershift trans, and probably ok for Allis PS trans; although i know AC book says 10W.
I run the TDTO 30 in wet backends of my HD6E s.
Probably biggest diciding factor is your abient temperatures.
30 is ok for 'me' because I never see colder than 0 c or you guys 32f.

I did stage a barrel of the SAE 50 to bring home with me. I was in the car during harvest so no way to bring it back at the time.

The hopper bottom trailer I pull during harvest busted a couple of main leaves in the spring pack(s) of the front axle, so going to replace them complete, and service the tractor bringing both back to my shop.
