I know a few of you that own one of these little TLW gems. Mine actually was useful this summer for me. Are there anymore than eight or nine of these left in existence?

I found serial #100 for sale along the road 600 miles from home in northern Quebec.
Buying it is a story in itself. There was one in our aera when I was a kid in the early 50's and I remember it like yesterday. This one was restored in 1994 in time for the GOTO.
For ten years I thought I had the only one but now I know of 5 in Canada.

Some former A-C engineers formed Tractomotive Corp in 1949. Their first product was the TL-W loader based on the Allis-Chalmers WF tractor. There was either 150 or 202 built. Tractomotive also built 65 TL-B's based on the 'B' tractor but did not have B sheetmetal. Mine has A-C decals which is not correct but there was no information available at the time. Tractomotive also built the loaders and side booms etc for the Allis-Chalmers crawlers. The TL-6 ,TL-10 etc followed. Tractomotive used A-C engines and their products were sold by the A-C industrial dealers. In 1959 Allis-Chalmers purchased Tractomotive. |

I have a TL10 with a WD45 engine in it. I bought it several years at an AC dealer close out auction. It was their main loader for the dealership.

I saw on the Orange Spectacular video from 2006 that RFD has been showing there is a TLW featured, owned by the Kurtzbein's. He states there are 5 known and his is one of two complete units. Apparantly his numbers are a little off ?

I know of 6 in the US including Farrell's and have heard of 2 more. I had my TL-W at the GOTO's in 94 Ontario, 95 Ohio, 2000 Onartio, 03 Hutch, 05 Union Grove, and 09 Milton Ontario. The TL-W at Hutch in 06 owned by Kurtzbein's was featured at the Montevideo show a few years earlier. It wasn't painted in time to be photographed for the advertizing so those pictures were of my TL-W.

Mine still has the original "TractoLoader" decals that are still very visible that I have planned to copy and see about having some decals made up. Is there any interest? By the way Calvin, yours looks real nice. I had decided to keep mine in its original clothes as I don't think that it have ever been repainted. But after looking at yours it is tempting to put a nice paint job on mine.

I think that "Tractomotive" was on the hood but I am not sure. It seems that I saw that in a picture somewhere.

What did they use for hydraulics? Was the a live pump added? Was there an added reservoir.
Anybody have any detailed pictures of the work station? |

The hydraulic pump is driven from the end of the crankshaft and the oil tank is under the seat. There is no down pressure on the main lift cylinders and the whole systems runs at about 1500 psi. The crown and pinion is flipped so the four gears are in the direction of the loader. The brakes are installed backwards and the originial gas tank is moved in front of the steering wheel. It also has a non WF steering box. I used a B steering wheel to make it easier for a big guy to get into the seat but with nothing in the bucket, it steers hard. In 1998, Antique Power had a two page story on my TL-W. Through this forum, friend of a friend etc, I was able to contact the son of the founder (Van Debeus) of Tractomotive. He sent me copies of all things TL-W from their collection that I will copy and share with other owners if you like. This is the same collection that Norm Swinford referances is his construction book.

Given the low number of these loaders in existence, I can't help but wonder what price they would sell for if they were as closely associated with the Deere market as they are to Allis.

I have one . I need to look at it to find the number. I also have an original owners/parts manual. I've had mine for several years. I need to start a restoration of it. It runs and moves as it should. Calvin and I have spoken to each other about our TLW's. I live in west central Illinois. Illinois, where we have our license plate made by ex-govenors.

I just picked this one up today. Pretty sure it is a TL-10. I have the original manual for it also.
Where is the serial number located? It has the gas WD45 engine in it. ![]() Edited by Rltool - 08 Oct 2022 at 4:24pm |
