I was looking around for a toolbar to mark out rows for my onions this morning and settled on an old transplanter that I picked up last year. It was missing some parts, but had enough stuff to make a nice 4 row marker/trencher (4 discs and 2 guage wheels). I planned on using my 5020, but the wheels were spaced wrong and it didn't work well....and no way to move the wheels out. I wanted a light weight tractor for less compaction as it has been really wet out here lately...then I thought maybe the C I have with a front pump and fabbed 3pt would do the job. I put a battery in it and some gas...drained some nasty stuff out of the carb (I hadn't run it since 2004). It fired up after a bit of cranking...wheels were spaced perfectly, so off to work we went. Works great, and now will be my new tractor to layout rows.....I used the D14 and 2 row corn planter before, but this will save wear and tear on it. Robin and I then planted 6000 onions from 2:30 till 8. My back is tired, but this tool is great compared to the way I did it last year.

Here are some pics of the old girl....gave $1100 for it I think around 2002. Live hydraulics are nice, but the 3pt set back so far that it is only good for light implements.
I was just surprised it started as easy as it did.

Eldon, that is about the most "interesting" 3 point on a C I have ever seen. Any idea why it was built like that?

Eldon, that D-10 I got from you, hadn't been run all winter. We got home from Florida a couple weeks ago and I turned the gas on, waited a little and it started as soon as I turned the key.

aha- see.... you'reookin at it wrong-
it wasn't designed to lift rear implements-
it was designed to lift the front wheels off the ground!
What's the front pulley for? no playin' safe- let's hear some creative answers...

Let's see, in 1922 my dad went to market with 25 bunches of onions @ .04 ea and 35 bunches of radishes @ .05 each. Had to drive 5 miles each way. Barely enough to feed the horse. Bob

Dave, Ya use apiece of nylon rope back to the 3 point and you can lift the front blade when installed.

Some pics of the rig, notice the use of some AC donut weights. It is nice to be able to put together a tool just from what is laying around out back.

It is nice to be able to put together a tool just from what is laying around out back.That's one of the fun parts of playing farmer. Looks like you could just about use some donuts up front.
