I've been seeing several tv ads for the "multi folding" GM truck tailgate Confused. Just what is the life expectancy of this tinker toy ?

My understanding is $3600-$4000 to replace once you back into something with it down!

That's what I figured was the "city slicker" agenda from GM, Ford can't be far behind on another catastrophe like the Transit van Wink

Actually back when GM,Ford  and Dodge made usable trucks, you didn't need them. When a grown man can't reach over the bedside of a pickup truck, some is wrong! Hopefully they will head back to the days of common sense and quality!  JMHO, Tracy

I have a 2016 Silverado 2500 6.0litre.  I can't reach over the bedsides to grab things. I am 6'-1". This is my #1 complaint. I know it is rated to carry like 4000 pounds in the bed, but I think this high bed makes the truck a pain in the butt to live with. I miss the old low bed heights. I guess if I had the fancy $5000 tailgate I could get in the bed easier. Ha, they fix one cock-up with another. Other big complaint is 12.5mpg gas mileage (unloaded).

Most pickups I see running around are Country Cadillacs, not being used for work.

$4,000 for a tailgate??? I just put a flatbed on my dually, I couldn't wait to get rid of that box. I bought a used Hillsboro bed,sandblasted it, painted it,all new lights & wiring and installed cost me just shy of $2,000. I had one on my last truck, if you've ever had a flatbed you'll never go back to a box.let alone one with a $4,000 tailgate.
