I'm still looking for the adapter that drives the tach cable on my D17 S1. I bought the cable from an Agco dealer, but it has a square end. He claimed ignorance of any adapter, and the parts manual doesn't seem to show it, evidently the original cable came with a tang drive on the distributor end (why are they selling a square end cable then?) and didn't need an adapter. So I am looking for an adapter that goes from the square cable to the tang drive. I have hit all the automotive supply houses around here (Car Craft, OReilly, NAPA) in our small town with no luck. I'm headed back to the NAPA store today as they told me their "Tuesday" guy might have an answer as he does a lot of tractor parts. I measured the parts involved and it looks like the cable is about 0.100" square and the i.d. of the tang socket is 0.165".
I did find an adapter on a website that looks like it might work - 0.104" sq to 0.156" tang drive(for a pulse generator), but I am going to try the NAPA store one more time, I'd rather buy from them than order from a website.
Last night I went out to my shop to measure the tach cable. Big pool of oil under the old girl, looks like all the oil from the steering reservoir. Next project!
cheers,
Creek

I did purchase some several years ago from AGCO; however the cost was really up there. Since then, I have made drive adaptors from an electrical wire spade by cutting off one tang and filing the other to fit the squeezing the round end onto the sq shaft with pliers. I believe I may have a spare in the shop; will look after the snow passes and I get the driveway opened up.

The correct cable has the small nut and square inner cable on one end, and the larger nut with the inner cable end that has a built in key end.

Bob -
that sure looks like the part I need, but it doesn't give the o.d. - they do mention 3/16" drive. It looks like the i.d. of my tang socket is 0.165" - did you have to turn yours down a bit? Looks like brass, so might not be a big deal to file it down a bit.
I think I will try Greg L's idea of the electrical spade connector and see if that works. If not I will buy the msd part - website says $13, but they add $10 for the ride. Ouch.
cheers,
Creek
