I would just like to thank every one for such a warm welcome I have received on this great Allis sight. I have replied to some questions making sure not to speak out of turn. First I would like to say that I am not computer literate but I have been learning very slowly. I retired from Allis as a field engineer in 1983 and now approaching my 79th birth day the passion for orange tractors have still not lost its appeal to me nor do I think it ever will ! I assume when you work countless hours and stay awake many a night for a company trying to resolve a problem to provide the best quality product to your customers that gets in your blood one might say. I truly believed in a great company with great products and I am very proud to have been part of it. I am so happy to see a web sight that provides a home for all the AC guys and gals out there. I don't think I said it before but- welcome! Former Allis employees like yourself bring a lot of knowledge from the "inside" that the rest of us would never know. Where were you based when you worked for A-C?

Thanks again so much for making me feel so welcome ! I find my self checking often to see if any one had replied to my posting, just goes to show how much excitement I have in my life now days I suppose. I do find my self out in my tractor stable playing about as often as I can or as much as my health allows. I now reside in my retirement years just outside of Moose Lake MN witch was my vacation home when I worked for Allis Chalmers, very peaceful and serine here on my little farm. I did report directly back to my superiors in the West Allis Works and traveled about with the company spending most of my time about the US and abroad. Much of my time was spent in Harvey, but I was in no better terms a "drifter" it was my job to go into the felid and get my hands and cloths dirty when a problem arose and take my findings back and try to correct that particular problem, such as the connecting rod problems in the 301 engine most of you may not have even known about until just now. That was my small part in a very large Allis family. I was know as "dirty Schmitty" because most of the time I was saturated in diesel oil. Most engineers wore nice cloths with a tie, my day always started out similar to that but the tie came off rather quickly and most of my cloths ended up being given away with only one day of use by an very understanding wife.

What is my favorite AC tractor ? That is a very hard decision for me to make but if I had to choose just one it would have to be the D-19 I suppose. The 19 came out fighting from the beginning, pound for pound it was a fire cracker. I have many in my collection including 4 19 diesels 2 gas, 2 LP's. I do enjoy my little English built tractors as I have 2-D270 3-ED-40's and a D270. I love to get one of my 45 diesel's out and go for a spin when I feel well enough to do so. I have quite a few more that I would love to see restored before I go off to the happy hunting ground. The fellow I have in Wisconsin that does my restoration jobs is running behind on other jobs but the next one that will be done is a 175

Sorry that I am just now getting to say this but Welcome to our orange family!! I really enjoy hearing stories from the people that worked with Allis-Chalmers. I think you will enjoy hearing the stories that other former employees on here have told and will tell, along with all the forums. I was born a little too late (1994) to see or know much about AC. It wasn't until I was around 15 that I can officially say that I was bitten by the AC bug and the classic tractor bug in general. Allis-Chalmers had such a storied past with so many contributions not limited just to the agriculture industry we now take for granted that I found myself deeply involved and emotionally connected with the company. That is why I have such a hard time accpeting the fact that AGCO is trying to throw out the AC heritage. This site and its members are like a family and we all try our best to help each other out when anyone is in a time of need or just wanting to talk about something. I know that on most sites you can't get past the feeling that you are just talking to a computer screen but here I really get the feeling that I am talking to others just like myself that have the same feelings and passion for AC that I do. I can thank AC and the people on this site for helping me to realise what my future should be. I am currently going to school for a degree as an Agricultureal Equipment Tech and diesel tech in general and I must say that I am positive that I made the right choice. So if you are still reading this I am sorry for writing all of this, I just got a little carried away. If you ever need any help please be sure to post it in the forums or send one of us a private message and we would be more than happy to assist you.

I missed your first post also, but as the other's mentioned, welcome to the "Orange Family" here on the forum. I consider folks like yourself an important asset to this fourm just as our pal Bill Long, Doc Allis, and the many other well informed AC folks that worked directly with and for Allis-Chalmers many years past. You folks are the text books for a lot of us learners. Again, welcome aboard!! Sounds like you have a nice collection of Orange in your barn.

Thank you all again so much, you all have just been so kind, treating me like family and making me feel welcome. If any one has any questions for me feel free to ask, I don't know how well I can answer it but I will try my best. As for my collection there are around 38 if I remember correctly, the largest a 8070 and the little fellow a 5015. The 8070 I bought just last year and my grandson loves to get it out. He is taking me today to get it brought back home, he took it to a small local show over the weekend. I will have him try and help me with some photos today since we will be out and about. I hope you all like the "Big Boy" in the collection. I did enjoy my day out and the 25 mile drive back in the 8070 was very nice.

A big Welcome from North Carolina too! Did you ever get to come Southward? Can you give more info on your earlier post, about AC301 engine rod problems? My son's AC190xtIII just broke CrankShaft last week. He's still in mourning..ha! Our diesel mechanic helped rebuild engine less than 200 hrs ago, and we did not go into CrankShaft.....but we probably should have now? Our mechanic thought the 301 engines had many CrankShaft issues?... but we don't remember stories of that on this web site? Was he really referring to the larger series engines? (469?)? We have a stationary parts engine with a hole in block and broken rod, but haven't opened it yet. He said its' crankshaft would probably be twisted? Would enjoy more of your information on AC's!

our nieghbor use to be an allis dealer, he has a pile of old AC's and I am going to twist his arm some day to see his collection. the only one I have seen is a 5050 and a D10 (the D10 was redone) I think he said he has 10 of them, I would really like to see them all. I was going to trade in the WD on a kubota, it's hard to describe. a machine that I have used for 15 years (some have used them alot longer) it has never left me down and has been abused, but takes it in stride. It sits in the garage just waiting to be used, when it's time. it fires right up, burps out a little black smoke and off to work. how do ya get rid of a machine like that?
