So I typically like to run Rotella engine oil, hear some good and some bad about it probably going to switch to agco oil just cause it's easy to pickup when I'm getting filters etc.
For trans/hyd oil I use to be pretty much just agco permatran, but when hoses blow etc etc on weekends or after the dealers closed I end up using canadian tire or princess auto(Canadian harbor freight type store) trans hyd oil. Last spring I ended up at Walmart cause everyone else was out of the oil and farm dealers were closed, Anyone else run the Walmart stuff? It's $50 a pail CAD vs I think the agco is $85 CAD Picked up 2 more 7000 series tractor that have sat for a long time so going to change filters and fluids. I'm mostly inclined to use agco oil but if the other oils meet a lot of john deere specs etc would they really hurt the tractor? All my 7000 series are power director trans. Also on coolant, I understand how important keeping good coolant is, thoughts on AGCO coolant? I see Cummins coolant recommended a lot, but mostly been using agco coolant and would be fine changing it out every few years too keep it fresh. |

I use walmart oil. Can't beat the price. Same with the coolant. Just change it once in a while...
How does a full time farmer expect to make any money? Try keeping it in your pocket... |

Oh I know it's much cheaper but sometimes saving on oil and fluids is not worth it. I will always use the agco filters or at least for the hydraulics.

Heavy Duty "treated" diesel coolant will see to it that the sleeves don't get pit holes in them from the coolant side, causing you to overhaul it before it is worn out. Money well spent.

I buy Agco filters because they are the most correct for vintage or restored A-C tractors. I've read somewhere that Wix makes Agco filters.
As for oil, the tractor manufacturers do not make their own oil. The important thing in my opinion is that the oil is name brand and meets JD etc. spec. Oil is almost universal in hydraulic/transmissions now because farmers run different brands of tractors and implements and are always mixing hydraulic oil between tractor brands.

I've used the Walmart oils for years. while I don't put a lot of hours on each tractor maybe that's 'harder' on them ? I'm thinking the oils meet some kind of basic 'spec' and really , my tractors are 55+ years old , I have NO idea what was in them since the factory....unless you're the original owner and did all your own changes and kept real records, who KNOWS what's been in your tractors. i think oil brands are like 'Ford vs Chevy' debates....

Interesting that Wix makes Agco filters. They are good filters. That’s all I use in my hot rod Chev motor in 70 Camaro. Napa gold filters are also Wix and I think a bit cheaper than the one with the wix decal.

Yeah I always run Agco filters, just Cause it's handy to get it all at the dealer and I have also heard about the filters being wix and have no issues spending more on good filters.
I understand the tractor manufacturers don't make their own oil, they may just have different specs as far as additives etc? Mostly it's just the hydraulic trans fluid that gets expensive with older equipment, leaks and blown hoses can go through a lot of oil it seems.

I run coolant filters to keep it conditioned. Napa had a crazy good deal on antifreeze like 45% off. Oil wife finds good deals on Amazon and WalMart online and it’s delivered to our door cheaper than you can get it at the store. We usually buy ours once a year and stock up.
