For the first time in my life, my sweet corn doesn't have any ears. Corn is six feet , tasseling well, not one ear even started on any plant in the entire garden. I never have seen this before. Silver Queen is variety, it is my favorite! What causes this? Seed were bought at Co-op. Thanks tracy

The first corn the ears were part of the stalk, right below the tassel. I have seen this a time or two at the end of a row of field corn. Any chance your sweet corn is like that?

Mine is not tasseling yet, had to replant it. Bought some silver queen from a dairy farmer last week. It was GOOD! Of course silver queen is my favorite. I had trouble getting beans, squash and okra to sprout on my first planting also. Talked to several others that had a hard time getting things to come up.

You know,,around this area, we never had any of the local farmers plant any sweet corn,,and couldn't tell ya'll ,why not,,? The farm I grew up on never had the sweet corn just danged old "Field corn" that always had some worms that I hated to pick out, but don't remember it ever been sweet. I got my introduction to sweet corn when I bought a package of frozen "Sweet Corn Cobletts" at one of the local stores and By Golly,,it was a whole new world. I always buy a 9 count pkg and me and the wife finish it in two cooks,,,,  I never even look at the fresh corn now,,,,

Friend of mine had this happen one year, claimed it was because he put a bunch of fresh manure on his garden from a livestock show. Not one tomato or ear of corn but the plants and stalks were tall and pretty.

Algona had a POW camp in the 1940's. The Germans soldiers would not eat sweetcorn because it was swine food. After being forced just a little, they found out it was pretty good. A least that was what my grandma told me.

Mine probably isn't gonna tassel. HER FILTHY DAM GOATS crawled under the gate and ate the top 1/3 of the plants off. It was between 2-3' tall. I got's the 12 gauge dug out and shells sitting on the closet shelf.

My sweet corn did great early. Right next to it the truckers favorite white field corn was 12 feet tall with 2 big ears to the stalk. Overnight a pack of wild hogs found the patch and knocked half the patch down and ate the fully undeveloped ears cob and all. Tried sitting up at night with 00 buck shot in my 3" mag 12 ga but the skeeters were so bad I gave up and gave the field corn to the pigs.

Ken, we like Trucker's Favorite and Hickory King field corn. Best fried corn there is. Dad said when he was little they grew a Florida Gentleman sweet corn, can't find any seeds of it anywhere. He said the kernels were not in straight rows on the cob.

I think your talking bout Country gentlemen variety also known as shoepeg and yes you can still get the seed ----- No body now plants it because it's not one of the better varieties. --- My aunt planted some one year by mistake---they ended up giving it to the hogs cause no body could eat it!

I need to head out and pick some more sweet corn now that church (or what passes for it with zoom) is over.
Growing under extra poor conditions I have seen all the abnormalities that have been mentioned. Without irrigation water or summer rain,it is tricky but with old fashioned dust mulch and a bit of luck  have never had complete loss. To spread risk I plant 3 to 6 varieties with as early and late of maturity dates as I can find. If it is really hot and very low humidity you get lots of cobs with almost no seeds.
One variety was tasseled and not a ear to be seen. But the ears are coming along and the pollen has held on.  Several more weeks will tell.
