Looking for advice on freeing a stuck clutch plate on my Model B AC. The tractor has been sitting idle for several years and I finally got it running but the clutch is stuck apparently. Riverok

What I have read about this is first of all you have to start it in gear. Give yourself plenty room . While moving depress the clutch and jam the brakes hard. Should pop loose. What gear to be in is anybody's guess. I would try first or reverse or try both

When I first got my CA the clutch was stuck. I chained it to a big tree put it in first gear, pushed the clutch in and started the tractor. You may need to be quick to shut off the tractor as the front may what to came up on you. I didn't have that happen. For me the rear wheels just spun a bit until the clutch broke free. Just be careful what every you do.

Dennis I just put some gears in a Ford trans because someone told owner of tractor to do the same thing .I would not do that .Look up in inspection hole if things have a lot of rust on them just split tractor.

Back in the 50s my Dad's B clutch stuck....my brother and I pushed him in high gear to start it and he did exactly that. As I recall, it freed up after a couple of tries.

I guess you would have to leave a bit of slack in the chain in order to start the tractor? Seems a little scary.....high gear is better as you need as much resistance as you can get.

If its stuck from sitting, sometimes you can spray in some light penetrating oil, and try rocking back and forth, while its in gear, with the pedal chained down. Now if its been submerged in a lake, or has a massive oil leak, that has dried to a tar like resin, its a different story...

Ouch, first gear at low idle shouldn’t break anything. I’ve had the CA sitting and spinning a few times without issues. Allis built these tractors like Sherman tanks. Just don’t grind the gears. |
