Charlie hit it right on the head. If the engine is in tune and fires right up immediately, you shouldn't have any starter issues unless the starter has issues before hand where components are pretty worn internally. If it does, sometimes the application of 12V's sends it to the toilet sooner. On occasions, it's good to make sure the Starter motor pinch bolt doesn't losen up allowing the Starter motor to move when appying 12 volts as you use the Tractor. An occasional shake of the motor to make sure its snug in its mounting cavity will save a possible nose cone issue or ring gear problem. The way the Starter motor is mounted is crude, especially when applying 12 volts to the unit. A good unit will make a lot of torque, and you can actually see em' move when cranking sometimes... HTH
