Was at an antique store on Friday, came across a steel milk crate, with the company name where my late Father worked(Southland Corp). It’s in near perfect condition, with the exception of its painted white. If my memory is correct, those crates were all unpainted galvanized steel? Granted the milk industry transitioned to the plastic crates nearly 50 years ago. Is my memory correct? I paid $25.00 for the crate.

I've had a steel milk crate since the early 1970's and it's got "Meadow Gold" stamped into it IIRC. It's always been red and does not appear to be a repaint.

I have 3 of them and all the other ones I have seen are all galvanized. I don't remember seeing one painted? HTHs Lars

Should work better fer sittin on than them plastic "thou shalt not steal" ones do. I've heard they don't last long.

Yeah, but about everything is now being made out of plastic. And plastic is made out of?? Do we even have any steel mills left? Bring INDUSTRY back to THIS country!!!!!

Was thinking about that the other day, when plastic first came on the scene it was cheap to buy but you could possibly buy enough of them to get the same amount of work from them as a steel one for less money. Now plastic anything cost more than the steel did in the first place and the plastic still ain't no better than it was in the 50's and 60's. Some body got the short end on that deal. Guess who. It was a process using steel and now it's beads into a molder and there's another one. Ahh the good old days, you are sadly missed.

I have 10 or 12 of them in the basement that I store canna bulbs in for the winter. Got 20 or so plastic ones too. kinda handy to have since you can use them for a lot of things.

Sad thing when Japenes start buying our businesses. States need to pass more laws againist it like some have about them buying land
