 Topic: Stainless muffler for D-17 series 2

I was trying to find a good muffler for a series 2 D-17. While looking at Steiners I saw that they had a stainless muffler for an IH that seemed really close in measurements. So I bit the bullet and bought it. I had to take 1 inch off the stand pipe, otherwise it fits fine. It has an IH logo stamped into it, so watch out! It is part number IHS2569. It sure sounds better than the old stanley!

I would tell Steiner about what you did to modify it and send some pics of how good it looks. Maybe they would get some made up without the IH logo if there was enough interest. It does look good. Tom

You cant trust flapper caps to keep rain out for an extended amount of time. Maybe 2 or 3 days. They are certainly not waterproof like a bucket.

I had a muffler on a remote generator that had a crimped top where the pipe exited. The lip was about a sixteenth of an inch tall. Rainwater would gather in the dish formed by the lip and eventually seep into the exhaust system. If you have one of these types of mufflers you can't depend on a can keeping the moisture out of your engine.
