Were/are these configurations primarily for small grains? Did any of you guys run them in corn?

They were used in Rice, Soybeans, Navy Beans  mainly.  There was a spring tooth concave door for rocky conditions.  The concave on the M/L  offered a 4 row spike config and an open grate conversions that removed 2 rows of spikes and put in a grate section.
The spike tooth option was often offered with a floating feeder beater that was smaller in diameter and would float up about 4" to let in wads that the spike would easily handle. We ran spikes in corn as well usually with the lapped filler bars -9- and left them in all time. We even shelled POPCORN with spikes and never got docked.
When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money..

I had a Case sp-9 that was a spike tooth and did great in beans. No cornhead was  able to be used on these.

My dad had a Gleaner E bean special, which had a spike cylinder. It did a good job in corn and soybeans also.

Granted there would be damage, but would the "spike" cylinder  activate the rock door like a true rasp bar ??
