How many of you have a special meal or food that you have at Christmas? We have a breakfast of smoked boston butt, scrambled eggs, hot biscuits, and pork gravy. Then I need a morning nap. I have to boil some pork to make broth for the gravy and then I put it in brunswick stew.
Merry Christmas and a healthy, prosperous, and blessed New Year to all! Edited by Hubert (Ga)engine7 - 25 Dec 2018 at 10:07am |

Hubert I got up and made eggs sausage , scratch biscuits n sausage gravy. When I started the gravy the flour didn’t react right upon a quick taste I decided it was powdered sugar. I caught it before much made it in the skillet.Lol

Christmas Eve we boil shrimp and crab legs with salad and twice baked potatoes. Christmas morning we have homemade sausage, bacon, country ham, eggs, grits, biscuits and sausage gravy.

I used to make Oyster stew every Christmas, but quit about 4 or 5 years ago. Nobody here but me and Ma and she never cared for it that much anyway. Made from scratch!

If you would cook those taters done the first time you wouldn't have to bake them again. LOL That is some good eating, especially the breakfast. You didn't mention liver mush, or is that not found in your area of NC?

Have not had oyster stew for years - use to go over to a relatives who was old school German got out just before WW2 in area that was occupied by Russia -
She was a fabulous cook and many different dishes there for christmas when we would go over there after Dad passed . Never did get a taste for Head cheese or blood sausage - might have been the sound of the names when i was a youth |

Life lesson: If you’re being chased by a lion, you’re on a horse, to the left of you is a giraffe and on the right is a unicorn, what do you do? You stop drinking and get off the carousel.

Since it's just the the two of us now, we have lobster, shrimp and scallops with a bottle of wine Christmas eve. This year she made a breakfast ring for the morning which is essentially a loaded omelet wrapped in crescent rolls shaped to look like a bundt cake

When my Grandma Hauter was alive she had a New Year's tradition of oyster stew and mince meat pie. Both she & Grandpa were from German families. The stew & pie was supposed to provide good luck in the new year. Those of us who could would come over & eat with her. Grandma liked to call other family members & wish them "Happy New Year!". I like oyster stew but don't plan to ever eat another piece of mince meat pie.
