My 8-28 Snow Blow II has flat tires and the wheels are seized on the shafts. I've tried PB blaster etc but can't get the wheels off.
1. Any suggestions how to get the wheels off so I can get them repaired? 2. Otherwise I'll use my angle grinder to remove/destroy the wheels and I'll need to buy replacements. Where can I buy wheel replacements? Thanks |

Might be heat and shock time - before grinder .
Use a air chisel (Harbor freight $15) and blunt punch - rap on wheel hub after soaking with penetrant. If you have heat source - heat um and rap while hot - soak again and try again .. Also you can make a puller out of heavy flat stock or use a steering wheel puller type unit (might have to drill 2 holes through rim) and then use the heat rap and pull to free the wheel.

Take the whole thing to a professional tire shop (NOT WALLMART) as is. we've repaired lots of them while the rim was stuck to the axle.

Roll it over on its side, and remove the tires. If the rims clean up good enough to re-mount new tires, put them on, and you are done. If not, you can try surpluscenter.com for wheel rim replacements. I assume it is a 8 HP 28" wide walk behind unit.

Yes it is the 8 hp walk behind. I have it on a jack so the wheels are off the ground, and have whacked them pretty good with a big sledge hammer. I think I'll try the air chisel. I have already put the torch on it but mine is a bit wimpy, will look for one with more flame.

I think I'll buy new wheels and then destroy the rusted up originals. I looked on surpluscenter but don't know which wheels to get. Any help identifying the correct wheels/tires? Thanks

Look at the tires that are on it. They should have the size formed right into the sidewall of the tire. Example 4.80-8, 4.8" is the nominal width, 8" is the rim size. Rim diameter and width, and what center hole size is should be all you need to find a replacement.

I measured the center hole and it came out to 0.79 inches. That's about 12.5/16 which seems unlikely. It's also about 20mm.
Question is, were the Snow Blow IIs metric? |

Measure the shaft outside diameter and find the tire size off your old tires. Without knowing those 2 things, nobody can help you get a replacement.

Why? Remove and replace the tires if you can't find replacement rims.

LAY THAT SNOW BLOWER ON ITS SIDE, GET TIRE IRONS OUT AND REMOVE TIRES....USE ROTARY WIRE BRUSH TO CLEAN RIMS, PAINT WHILE CLEAN, LET DRY, SLIP 2 NEW TIRES ON.......NO NEED TO REMOVE WHEELS........DONE IT MANY TIMES.

IF NEW TIRES DONT SEAL TO PAINTED RIMS, USE RTV SILICONE AFTER TIRE IS ON RIM BUT DEFLATED.....HAD TO RTV SOME RIMS, USE RATCHET STRAP OVER TIRE TO PUCKER IT, AND NOW EVEN WITH PITTED RIMS, THERE IS NO LEAK.

The rims are bent somewhat from the hammer whacking. I'll buy new tubes and see if I can get away with just replacing them.

You might use a large "crescent" adjustable wrench with jaws closed very tight to straighten your old rims.
I am in the KC area and sell new tires and wheels for snow blowers, already mounted. Theyre never used, but would need to know whether you need 8 inch diameter rims or 12 inch diameter.........diameter of shaft would be very inportatant too. Dont go buy new tires separately as the price would be nuts......can sell you a set of wheels and tires mounted already for $45 913 638 3926

All you gear heads listen up......every penetrant you can buy burns away as soon as you light the torch.....and I know you all agree!!
I have a penetrant that ONLY works with flame......you will slap yourself for not thinking of it yourself............CANDLE WAX.......buy and ugly stick candle at a garage sale for few cents on the dollar, and as soon as the steel is pretty hot, just shove the candle right into where it needs to penetrate, it will flow like crazy and nothing will work better. HOT PARRAFIN is very slippery and the heat has already opened up the crack wider than it would be when cold...........works well on lug nuts, any rusty nut or fastener you can find.....just be careful how much heat you use.
