Did Allis-Chalmers ever make a snap coupler field cultivator? Not a row crop cultivator but a light tillage tool?

Yes. Dad bought one at a consignment sale about a 10-12 footer. I never saw it because the next day a collector called and wanted it real bad. He got over twice what he paid and did not have to haul it. Tom

This was one version. I picked this up last year from a forum member. It's currently set up for a pre-Snap Coupler WD but I also have the Snap Coupler drawbar. I believe there was a heavier version possibly made by the Oxnard Works as well. |

I have one that my neighbor gave me 20 years ago. Similar, but the brackets are made of 3/4" X 3" heavy flat stock and adjustable. Somebody torched off the snap set up and put on 3 point attachments long before I got it. I was going to take it to Dads, put it on the 170, and try using it along with a disk to work up a couple of sandy loam fields.

I've got a 12 footer that I converted to 3 point back in the late 70's.
I will try and get some pics in the next couple days. Still use it once in a while for food plots and gardens. |

I have an 8' one. Like it a lot. Does a nice job. If this works right, following are some pictures.

Just went out and looked at mine again, loosened the bolts with ATF and adjusted it. It's the same model as the others. What grade bolts did they use to hold the cultivator shanks?

How robust are they? I have a couple of small fields that used to be old town lots and there are a few pieces of brick, chunks of rock, etc. but probably nothing that's like bedrock sticking out of the ground. I don't think the tines are available anywhere so I'm concerned about tearing it up.

They are pretty tough and I would not worry about bricks and smaller rocks. The only problem I ever had is if I had too much ground cover that I had not disc up and then it would plug up. Other than that they do a good job. I need new spear points someday.

Here's a couple pics of mine from when I first got it. It had a couple broken tines when I got it. And I broke another 1 or 2 trying to used it after plowing. Right now it is set up to cultivate potatoes with hiller discs. |

Looking at the past to see the future.
'53 WD, '53 WD45, WD snap coupler field cultivator, #53 plow,'53 HD5B dozer Duct tape.... Can't fix stupidity. But will muffle the sound of it! |
