I see a lot of tractors being restored on here. How many of y'all take them to tractor shows, parades etc or do you work with them? Also for the ones that do the show route do you put implements on them. Reason I ask is I have cultivators and mid mount planters for my c have thought about putting those on. I have only seen one pic on the Internet and none in person with that set up. Thinking might be something different

No doubt putting any implements on a tractor will get more attention. Not that the tractor might not be done very well, or a very nice original, but once you have seen a few hundred B's or C's or whatever the common tractor might be, they all start to look the same. In my opinion the only way to get away from that is to have something different on it for people to look at.
I try to have something on my C when I bring it somewhere, usually my attached plow just stays on it. And usually people are looking at that because it may be the only C with a plow at that show. I know I am drawn to attachments, like you said, they aren't as commonly seen at shows.

I guessing that 99% of the 'restored trailer queens' never ,ever go into a field. It's too purdy for that, think of the hours just to clean a bit of mud off( HD syndrome).
Having implements hung onto a tractor SHOWS what it was USED for, hopefully inspire others to save old iron..... Yup, NONE of my D-14s will ever win a ribbon, but they do get used every once in awhile. Jay |

Most of mine are unrestored, but those that have complete restorations still get to occasionally go out and do what they were made for.

I figure the 1948 I restored had worked enough. So its retired. Just parades and shows. Not going to win any ribbons either not why I restored it to begin with. Been in family since it was new.

My 39 B is retired. Only goes to a show and 1 parade a year. May take it for a Sunday drive once in a while. I restored a 51 WD and sold it to a person which is going to use it. I had a 37 WF and a Model C which I sold to a museum which I restored also. My other B and CA are unrestored and are my working tractors along with a 860 Ford.

My restored tractors are...well....working tractors. I do try to keep them nice, but if they get a scratch, well...it's not the end of the world. I put "workability" before looks, but like I say, I do try to keep them nice. Every now and then I'll wash up the B or 8N and take them to a show.
And yes, I prefer having an implement on the tractor at a show. I have a sicklemower on my B all the time.

I have nice original and restored tractors. I don't get to as many shows to show tractors as I used to. All get used if I can find enough jobs. My first choice is a nice original tractor, second choice is a tractor restored to how it came from West Allis and with just a little wear. Over restored tractors become trailer queens. My fully restored D-21 has cultivated more than 1000 acres. That's what it was built to do. Same goes for my old cars. Implements do add a lot to a tractor and gets my attention.

An implement on a tractor will draw more attention at shows. As for trailer queens, I bought a Farmall MD that someone tried to make a trailer queen out of, however, those tractors don't take well to retirement. It was pouring out white smoke and wouldn't hardly pull itself up on a trailer. I put it on disk and after 6 or 7 hours of working her hard the white smoke quit and she's back to normal.

I guess I am part of the 1% here. The tractors that I have restored do get used occasionally for work on the farm. Mostly chore jobs like running a rotary mower, cultivating, clearing out fence rows and brush. However, I am always careful to make sure I do not get anything scratched too bad. Only around the drawbar and 3 point is acceptable to me. Also, my tractors rarely get put on a trailer. It's much more fun to drive them to a show. People always look at you when they see you coming down the road. I do have some AC implements, but really should try to get more of them. It would be nice to have a different piece for each tractor. |

I got the idea that each of my "collected" tractors should have a plow. I collect tractors with 201 & 226 gas and so far I have a 2 bottom IH on steel for my unstyled WC, a 2 bottom IH on rubber for my styled WC. For my WD my I have a model 53 pin hitch, plus a WD pick up plow and a two bottom #2 on steel with hydraulic lift. I have a 63 snap coupler for my WD45 or one of the D17s and a snap coupler 74 and an IH model 60 3-16 for the D17's and 3 bottom 2000 series semi mount for the series IV D17 and a 4 bottom 9000 series for the D19 diesel.
That's a lot of plows considering we no till or minimum till our farm ground. lol This fall we had a plow day and I brought two tractors and 6 plows! |

I like to drive my D-10 in caravans to GOTO Shows.
And I use it some around our place. The GOTO in Michigan is about 60 miles from our place. I'm thinking of driving my D-10 from our place to there. Anyone that would like to join me is welcome. Dusty

I have a WD, I call restored but it is a working (Yard work) tractor but I take it to shows so it is that too. Was done 13 years ago so it shows its age again.

My first restored tractor was the WD-45 I grew up on. It was a parade tractor for awhile, but I needed it too much on the farm. So now it's what you'd call an "old restoration" with scratches and oil leaks. But if I get the chance, I'll still clean it up and drive it in a parade. And when I do, I always put the 3 bottom plow in the snap coupler. And on top of the plow, I clamp a big sign which says, "Isaiah 2:4 - they will beat their swords into plowshares", with the name of the church I'm serving and our hours of worship. ... It doesn't get much better than drivin' an old AC for the Lord!!!!

![]() Here's my WC that goes to parades, plows snow, mows with a 6' finish mower, discs fields, skids logs, runs a 13.5 KW emergency generator, tows various trailers. pulls a 6' York rake, and plenty of other things. It gets used year round. |

Thank you, Bull! Ah yes - "Work hard and cheerfully at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord, and not for people." ... The world would be a much better place if all people took these words of Scripture to heart!!!

I do what I call "Preservation restorations" If it gets paint, it may be over some dirt in the nooks and crannies that the pressure washer didn't get. If it leaks, it gets fixed, if it seeps, maybe not. Mine are all ready to use when or if needed, and will usually perform with the best.
