OK, got a shallow well pump FREE, rusty cast iron 'pump', 'Assembled in USA, 3 languages' motor. Removed the 4 bolts and pried the two apart maybe 1/4" . Cut the little airline. Is there some 'magic' to separate the two ?? Supposed to be a 'fun, winter project'..... Any help is appreciated |

normally the BACK cover will pry off as you overcome the stuck bearing... the FRONT COVER has the bearing and water seal... you need to unscrew the impeller first to get that cover off............ i am in the process of same WINTER project.... front bearing of motor bad.
this is very similar to the one i am doing..your may be a MUCH OLDER design if it was actually built in the USA. Edited by steve(ill) - 04 Feb 2025 at 9:00am |

Take the parts to the bead-blaster, you'll probably find most of it cleans up like new. If the motor windings are still good, and no impeller hubs spun out, a set of seals and bearings should have you back in high cotton pronto!

I did a similar project on a shallow-well jet pump about three winters ago... it was a 2hp 2-stage, locked up with rust. Two new seals cost under 30 bucks, bearings were about $40, and there was a plastic injector nozzle that'd embrittled and fractured... I found a replacement for $20. It went through the bead blaster, got fresh paint inside and out, and works like a champ. It was out-of-production, but it's equivalent replacement was over a grand, so that was a worthwhile winter project, hope yours turns out as well!!

Similar pumps here in Canada are north of $500 now !!! It was used for rainwater cisten so pretty clean. Managed to 'derust' the rubber gasket on the plastic insert in the pump. Destroyed the paper gasket between pump and motor, might cheat and use silicon, but have to wait until Spring.
