I wonder what the original ones had inside. Just springs or some kind of filler?

The early seats had a zig-zag wire springs. The later one used coil springs. They both used a 3'4" plywood base about 14" X 28" with 2 3/4" hole drilled in it. To leave the air out as you put your butt on the seat. The filling was cotton and horse hair or fiber as stated in the other post. And was covered a green cotton waterproof duck material.
I wood not want to sit on a vinyl cover for long, it will make your butt sweat. Bob

We made both the seats for our B's. Just cut a piece of plywood to the size of the seat box. Then we just got some high density foam (like is used in atv/motorcycle seats) and a vinyl material from a craft store. Wrap it around and staple to the wood with a staple gun. Mine is covered with vinyl I cut out of an old bus seat. I am fine with the vinyl but you can pick out any cover you want. Nice part about the vinyl is if they get wet you can just wipe it right off and not have water soak into the seat.

no, the seat back cushions are not original, but they sure make it a lot more comfortable, especially if bouncing around a little. I bought both of my seats and backs from allisbseat.com, and im very happy with them. One set is black, the other is orange with black trim, which looks very sharp.

I believe some early B's had a padded seat back. I think I remember someone talking about real early ones had a wood back.

In the 1938 B operators manual it shows a back, item #8,  #207354, quantity 1, name, seat back.
