 Topic: Roto Baler reset help

I fired up the roto baler yesterday and somehow I managed to get it to dump two bales however now I cannot get it to relatch to make the bale. It keeps dumping the hay right out the back as soon as it goes in the baler. Any ideas?????? I have an owners manual but of course it does not say how to relatch the baler. This is a white top baler by the way.

First I hope you have a manual since there are some very simple but critical adjustmants. I cannot remember them all. A few to think. (1) the adjustment on the brake band wheel that goes up the gear rack. The tighter it is made the bigger the bales. If it is too loose then it will not make a very big bale. (2) there are two latches that catch and close the back. Be certain they are there and in good shape, In fact, they even have replacement latch plates on them. (3) there is an adjustment on a long rod for the length on the sides. There is a nut section so it can be adjusted. I am not certain but the figure 26 1/2" comes to mind between centers on the end pins. (4) there is an adjustment timing the twine tube drop that I cannot remember. Hope this is some help but if a manual is available you can see them more readily. This 77 year old brain does not function all that well with percise information so do not go with it. Also, you may want to see if the pivot points are oiled or greased. They could be binding. Would love to be there to help but I am too far away. Let us know how it goes. Good Luck! Bill long

Check your latch plates to be sure the edges are not rounded off. I think they can be rotated 180 degrees to get a new edge. I always just grabbed the arms and raised them up to get them relatched, now that would get old quick if you have a broken part or an adjustment problem, but it seems like I could do it once and be good the rest of the day if everything else was right.

on the back of the baler on each side are the metal bars that trip the latches, make sure that grease and dirt have not built up under them and are causing the latches not to relatch. If the baler hasnt been used in a couple of years, I suspect it may just need a good oiling up, dont be afraid to get to much oil on the old beast.

It's hard to know where to start sometimes. The logical place is with the latches. Are they free, intact, plates tight, springs behind them intact and properly set for the plungers? Any or all of the above could be factors. Look at the twine tension disc...it being held in the wrong place by twine knotted in the box, on the twine disc, etc? Broken pieces anywhere can happen with these old girls but my guess is twine or the latches themselves. The other adjustments don't usually change in mid stream. If you have a couple of bales out and this happens, then look at some of the above. Let us know what you found. The bank of info grows each haying season

Just thinking out loud again.....Is your machine "in time" after kicking out the last bale. Sometimes the dumping of a bale will get the twine tube to prematurely drop and that coupled with hay going into the conveyor will trigger continuous dumping. The best way to fix that is to reverse your machine with the reversing rope & lever until the twine tube is back at its "fall down" position. you then can push up the twine tube manually to its latching point and run the machine as per normal to start filling the bale chamber.
Man oh man it is much easier to do this than to explain what you do on paper isn't it????

Yep, that's how it works. You fixed it put not sure what you did and when it happens again yer standing there scratching your head. The rotobaler running without skipping a beat is like a symphony to those of us that like mechanical things.
