I just had to replace the rear rims on my D17 series3 .This tractor was purchase new by my dad in 1963.The tire size was 16.9x28 Allis put on 12 inch wide rims from the factory instead of the 15 inch one that I put on.This made a big height difference and the getting on and off is a lot higher too.The tire side walls are straight now instead of rounded as before. As I remember the 16.9 was a upgrade from the 14.9 tire size so the rims were not changed as they should have been.

From my experience, 16.9-28 tires are always on 13" rims, which were standard on a D17. 12" were common on the wd45 with 14.9 tires. They went to 16"' rims when 18.4s were used.
